There is nothing here, really.

where your own face looms suddenly
from dark patches of the screen
some fragment of cheek, lip, eye
startled recollection of the self
I had imagined I was in a stream
of other voices, false-familiar strangers
@tracewoodgrains 38 is a wrong 'un, do not leave unattended around children, the incomplete symmetry has opened pathways to demonic infestation.
And disagree with Dilan, 10 is bad, very very bad. Base 10 is an abomination and a sign of man's estrangement from Nature and Nature's God.
@MrBombastic2525@stoydawg_00@DaisyDDesjardin@zaelefty It's a shame the bombastic buffoon is a bit of a coward and ran away to hide behind a block. I don't get to point out to him directly the idiocy of thinking that a description of the outcome of a centuries long evolutionary process was somehow referring to aristocratic edicts. ๐คท
@MrBombastic2525@stoydawg_00@DaisyDDesjardin@zaelefty Congratulations on doing a bit of basic etymology research showing the evolution of the terms. . Unfortunately your second sentence is still pulled-out-of-your-arse bollocks and you've yet to evidence anything resembling deliberate construction.
@GrahamSmith4@OxSoc If you want to defend the funding of HE it might be a good idea if the public isn't getting the impression that it's become a factory for the production of intolerant little ideologues who refuse to respect the rights of anyone else. Otherwise we might just not give a shit.
@GrahamSmith4@OxSoc Funny how it's never the people who are fomenting an aggressive & intolerant cultural revolution who are "stoking a culture war", but instead only those who are defending their rights & interests against the claims of the revolutionaries who are guilty of the charge.
@tracewoodgrains@mauddweeb "people can make clear-eyed analysis of the costs and benefits of different transformations"
Can they? I see very little evidence that people in the grip of what some psychologists have called an 'over-valued idea' are capable of that kind of rational analysis.
@tracewoodgrains The video linked below is from a few years ago, but it's worth listening to the warnings of an older transexual before being quite so facile in your use of slick but misleading phrases like "morphological freedom".
https://t.co/LHPyKGnMzs
@Aaron_George73 Renee Jax, a mature transexual, speaks honestly about living with an ageing trans body. Has to be a better way. https://t.co/hfaIowobv6
@tracewoodgrains The human body is not easily forced out of its evolved morphology, and definitely not without damage.
Medical transition inevitably involves a degree of physical self-harm. Do we have no moral obligations to try and discourage people from self-harm?
@MrBombastic2525@stoydawg_00@DaisyDDesjardin@zaelefty Ok galaxy brain, explain to us all how the words man & woman (since that's the subject at hand) were "deliberately constructed" in any way that matches standard definitions of 'deliberate' and 'constructed'.
@DavidBahry@RichardDawkins 2026 and you're still peddling this astonishingly dishonest bullshit and pretending as if you have some moral high ground here. It's like watching von Trier at his most unpleasant, that combination of vicious, scummy behaviour and the most ludicrous self-deception.
@johnniac_3@moveincircles It's noticeable that two of the world's most fertile populations, the Palestinians & the Israelis, are locked in a genocidal death-struggle with each other. It does seem to increase the baby making when you think someone's trying to wipe out your tribe.
@MrBombastic2525@stoydawg_00@DaisyDDesjardin@zaelefty ... metaphor or description for what produces language changes, which is better described as evolutionary. Thinking that language is somehow being deliberately 'constructed' leads to the kind of idiotic claim that was made in Stoyan's initial response.
@MrBombastic2525@stoydawg_00@DaisyDDesjardin@zaelefty All human culture, including language, is human created and all our cultural creating is socially mediated. That's a trivial fact that adds nothing to the argument. Throwing around the phrase 'social construction' adds nothing because construction is a very inaccurate ...
@MosesSternstein@lymanstoneky@phl43 It's a problem if, as seems to be the case historically, urban density suppresses fertility. If the population of rural areas which were sending their surplus people into the cities collapses, then eventually as that supply dries up the urban populations will also start to drop.
@aljhlester@GerryHassan This might be easier to do if the same journalists hadn't spent the last decade+ either spinelessly failing to counter, or actively promoting tendentious bs about race, gender, colonialism etc coming from the so-called 'progressive' left. They are complicit in poisoning the well.
@stoydawg_00@DaisyDDesjardin@zaelefty You have not given a single rational reason for why secondary, metaphorical & dependent meanings associated with the words man & woman should be understood in preference to their primary meanings when using the words categorically.
@stoydawg_00@DaisyDDesjardin@zaelefty More tedious dull-witted evasion of the point. All human culture, including language, is 'socially constructed', in a trivial sense. But that says nothing about the linguistic evolution or particular usage meaning of any word.
