اخیراً در یک مکاتبه‌ی رسمی با دولت جمهوری اسلامی ایران، نگرانی عمیق خود را نسبت به پرونده‌ها و احکام بابک علی‌پور، وحید بنی‌امریان، اکبر (شاهرخ) دانشورکار، پویا قبادی، ابوالحسن منتظر و سید محمد تقوی سنگدهی ابراز کردم. گفته می‌شود این افراد پس از روند قضایی‌ای که همراه با ادعاهای شکنجه، حبس طولانی‌مدت در انفرادی و محرومیت از حقوق دادرسی عادلانه بوده است، در آستانه‌ی اعدام قرار دارند.
ادعاهای مربوط به عدم رسیدگی پزشکی در دوران بازداشت نیز نگران‌کننده است؛ از جمله عدم ارائه‌ی درمان مناسب و قرار دادن افراد در شرایطی که می‌تواند مصداق رفتار ظالمانه، غیرانسانی یا تحقیرآمیز باشد.
مجازات اعدام برای اتهام «بغی» (قیام مسلحانه علیه اساس نظام جمهوری اسلامی) طبق میثاق بین‌المللی حقوق مدنی و سیاسی غیرقانونی است، زیرا این میثاق، مجازات اعدام را تنها به «جدی‌ترین جنایات» که شامل قتل عمدی است، محدود می‌کند.
از مقامات می‌خواهم اجرای احکام اعدام در این پرونده‌ها را متوقف کرده و در گام نخست، اجرای اعدام را به‌طور کلی تعلیق .کنند؛ سپس در جهت لغو کامل آن، در قانون و عمل، گام بردارند
