The Week of Prayer for #ChristianUnity begins today, which this year highlights love for God and neighbour. Let us #PrayTogether that Christians may reach full communion and bear witness of love towards all, especially the most fragile.
Let us #PrayTogether for Christian unity. May we never tire of invoking the Lord for peace in Ukraine, Israel and Palestine, and in many other parts of the world. It is always the weakest who suffer when peace is lacking.
The Scripture talks about the faith of our fathers, the faith of those who went before us. When you know heaven is cheering for you, you’ll feel supernatural strength. You’ll have the faith to do what God’s called you to do.
On Monday, I was stopped by a police officer in Lagos. As soon as he approached the car, I switched my glasses into the Meta Rayban. It was a situation I anticipated and an experiment I yearned for.
I casually made the switch in front of him so he’d know we are in a production. Then I pretended to press it on the side.
I wanted to see if just pretending to record the situation would disincentivise wrong behaviour.
You could see his shoulders fall. His demeanour completely changed as humility descended upon him. I saw the man wilt.
Even when he asked for my name, I knew he’d rather I could just go instead of answer. Because he didn’t want anything to do with me and my “rolling” camera.
He asked, “where are you from?” But we both knew he wasn’t interested in any answer as it was clear we were done. He didn’t know what to do or say so I helped him. I said, have a nice day my brother as I saved my time and his.
That experience further enhanced my belief in creating situations that reduce or eliminate bad behaviour.
I have read research papers on how increased street lighting helped to reduce crime in New York. Humans behave differently when they know they are being watched.
Light, camera influence action in real life too.
By merely lighting up our streets and roads and placing CCTVs around our homes - where they can be seen - we make would be criminals re-consider their decisions. These things don’t always stop crime. However, they can be useful.
In our situation, the CCTVs don’t help much after the crime because we haven’t effectively intersected data collection on identity with crime solving. They could help with preventing crimes though. Especially by criminals who may be known to us.
PS: Not saying that police officer is a criminal. Just saying he went from someone who appeared ready to bully me to an overly gentleman quite fast and easy. I saved both of us unnecessary drama.
As a young boy who came from the streets of Olusosun, who had to hawk in traffic almost every day of the week while growing in-order to survive the numerous challenges my family and I were facing, becoming a Treasure in Africa and World Football was a wild dream. Words can’t express the joy in my heart, this is a very special moment to me.
My football journey has been a rollercoaster of highs, tough lows and emotions. The goals, echoes and jubilation of victories keeps me going even when the critics, hate and pain of defeats hit me hard in the chest. The support of my amazing family, my fans most especially my Nigerian supporters and the love for the beautiful game of football motivates me to aim higher daily.
Losing my dear parents in the course of this journey leaves a scar in my heart as they have always been my major driving force for success since I was a kid, may their souls continue to rest in peace. To my wonderful family thanks for always having my back and loving me so much. I wouldn’t have made it this far without your esteemed support. To my fans and Nigerian supporters, your dedication in supporting me on the good days and bad days do not go unnoticed, even amidst the arrows of hatred thrown at me y’all still stood by my side. I am grateful.

When we have strong feelings of doubt and fear, and we seem to be sinking, we must not be ashamed to cry out like Peter: “Lord, save me” (Mt 14:30). This is a beautiful prayer! And Jesus immediately stretches out his hand.
