Mother hen as the name implies over protective of its chicks, the chicks are fragile and endangered by predators hence Mama hen will always watch the chicks closely. The chicks are always in the front,

To enter lakes or ponds. If you watch closely, ducklings always hesitate to jump into lakes or any body of water, but on seeing Mama Duck take the lead, they follow suit immediately. Duck is a Daring Mama.
So yes! They are both fantastic leaders.

because Mama hen needs to watch them alongside scan its vicinity for possible danger and always ready to defend the chicks if need be. Mother hen will always be a protective Mama.
On the other hand, Mama Duck leads the way , it is the motivation that the ducklings need to dare
