ESWD webpage got a small, but very nice update: you can track how many reports have been submitted overall, in this year, and this month. There are more than half a million reports now in the database! And that's incredible.
Incredible hyper-lapse video of a large tornado moving across south Enid, Oklahoma! Captured with our Enid cam, you will see the tornado disappear into a curtain of hail only to remerge moments later! #okwx@KOCOMichael@NWSNorman@KOCOdamonlane@MikeMorganKFOR
‼️🌪️Tornado in #Ermont and nearby areas such as #SaintPrix likely reached at least IF2 intensity, based on roof structure damage to residential buildings and overturned cars.

Yesterday’s tornado south of Ełk, northeastern Poland. We are currently investigating the event. The tornado passed through a local forest, causing considerable damage - plausibly up to IF1.5.
🎥 Nagranie przesłał do nas Andrzej Łuczkowski — serdecznie dziękujemy!

Great infographic, especially considering that for many people it's much easier to relate to a reference object with a known size, such as a coin or a golf ball
🌧☔🌩️ 'Pedra' o 'calamarsa'? O 'graníssol'? O 'calabruix'? O 'pilotes de golf'? 🙄
Recuperem la #infografia interactiva amb els noms dels hidrometeors sòlids perquè els pugueu anomenar amb precisió aquests dies 👇

Using the coin as a reference object, the largest hailstone in the photo is 11 cm across. This makes it the first giant hail report (>= 10 cm) in Latvia, at least based on what is available in the ESWD. Photograph by Sigita Zaļā in Palsmane.
Time to reminisce about 2024! There were 1035 tornadoes in that year, out of which 655 were waterspouts. Tornadoes killed 1 and injured 19 people and the strongest torndo reached an IF3 rating.
We have exceeded 10 000 large hail reports mark for this year! We are currently standing at 10 084 reports and our ESWD staff is still submitting reports for still incomplete summer cases. So stay tuned for more, including our annual hail summary blog coming up in January.
On average each year in Europe, QLCSs are responsible for 13 deaths, 110 injuries and considerable socioeconomic impacts. More details on the climatology of QLCS in Europe you can find in our most recent article published in BAMS.
