also now that we have official OFFICIAL confirmation that Andy Serkis was cast as The Whispered One I just KNOW the entire cast & crew were over the fucking MOON having him play their campaign 1 big bad, like that’s a va’s dream come TRUE right there
in, risking bringing everything down with you. a friend stands by your side, but they also try to pull you back from the brink, even using a bit of force if necessary. even using force if you’re about to fall too deep and that’s exactly what grog did here.
but not without heart. grog is always all about heart and loyalty first. i swear, i absolutely loved this moment—partly because, on a personal level, i know what it’s like to be in such a bad place that you lose sight of not just who you are, but also what you’ve always believed
all his interactions with pike after he realizes what happened are the most deeply satisfying moments i’ve seen in these episodes. grog stood his ground, determined. he knew the only way to "save" pike was to be blunt and show her the perspective she couldn't see herself

this is a huge, huge, huge moment of appreciation for grog. and honestly, i don't even want to analyze it as "character development," because grog has always been this way; this season just gave him a chance to SHINE—literally.
