Takeaways from #gslis777m1 section 3.4
(1) The class lecture reminds me that we must try to re-evaluate our services to stay relevant to the community, even if it means overcoming the challenges that may occur in doing so.
this is true some communities are already tech savvy but may want to learn about grant writing. we need to focus on their needs instead of assuming. #gslis777
4. I like the idea of learning your community and providing what your immediate community actually needs. There are a lot of pressures like technology, digital services and luxuries being repackaged for libraries to jump on but looking at what your community ACTUALLY need is
to aid you in your efforts. This gives them a sense of ownership and recognition for their abilities. I mean nowadays there are teenagers that know more about certain applications in technology that I have no clue about. They can teach us! #gslis777
Takeaways from #gslis777m3s5 Buono: do you think Sachem is able to provide great service because of the demography they serve & the budget they supply them? White Plains has state of the art tech & an awesome children's room & a great budget.. while other areas struggle.
#gslis77 Overall this class has taught me how to better service my teens. Some of the article/lectures i read have given me great program ideas. i also learned different methods of dealing with difficult behavior.
final takeaways #gslis777m4s2 ALA's Core Competencies of Librarianship contains section of knowledge necessary to graduate, Adminstrattion and Management. this class is not required at Queens college and prior to reading this. i wonder why and now even more.
#gslis777 Jensen: I have a lot of friends in the LGBTGIA community but I still feel i need a refresher course sometimes or additional education proper etiquette or terms. along with teen behavior, gender and sexuality should also be taught in library school.
