#CSR funding from @NXP Semiconductors enables open-source energy modelling framework from @iitdelhi. A new collaborative research effort by IIT Delhi and NXP Semiconductors explores the energy impact of error-resilience in chips - a necessary feature in safety-critical domains such as automotive electronics, but one that comes with a cost. The modelling framework, “Modeling Energy and Delay for ECC-Enabled Cache Architectures” (Authors: Dinesh Joshi, Aritra Bagchi, Ayushi Agarwal, Garima Modi Neha Srivastava, Sourav Roy, Preeti Ranjan Panda, recently accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems (IEEE TCAD), explicitly models and analyses these area/performance/energy costs, which can provide valuable insights to system architects. Error correction logic can introduce significant overheads — up to 12% performance degradation and 18% increase in energy consumption.
Our sincere thanks to NXP Semiconductors India leadership, including Hitesh Garg and Sarita Tyagi, for supporting this effort.
