📢 Canton Network Role Updates and Community Decisions

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who has contributed. I’m sure many users won’t be happy with these decisions, but as we’ve discussed before, we can’t please everyone — and I won’t try to. My duty is to remain fair while also giving opportunities to those who are new to the Canton ecosystem (including, unfortunately, “farmers”).

Based on all the feedback received from the community, here are the decisions we’re taking regarding role distribution:

👑 OG Role

OG roles will no longer be distributed.

Even though I really want to, I won’t be doing a “cleanup.” However, I’ll review users who are no longer active on X (Twitter), Discord, or Telegram, or who aren’t genuinely engaging with the ecosystem. These users will have a harder time earning rewards in the contest we’ll announce tomorrow. This will make it easier for our team to manage these users.

That said, within the parameters I’ve set, we’ll occasionally review and remove OG roles from users who are truly inactive. For example, it’s unacceptable for some OGs to ask questions like “How can I join the ecosystem?” OGs have been here since early September, and there’s little reason for such questions. In those cases, roles will be revoked.

Everyone will have the opportunity to participate in various raffles and competitions, but all will be carefully evaluated.

If you were part of the community before the date mentioned in the 《🔊・community-updates》 channel, I won’t remove your role, as those were truly early days.

🎨 Content Creators

We will create this role.

I’ll try to evaluate everyone’s posts as fairly as possible. I may not reach everyone right away, so please give me some time; I won’t assign this role instantly with a “poof.”

However, we’ll offer opportunities in upcoming contests to make you feel that your contributions matter.

🌐 Ecosystem Projects

We will not assign roles to ecosystem projects. The reason is that there are over 200 projects in the ecosystem, and if we start with one, it would be unfair to others. We don’t want to create an environment in Canton Network that makes it seem like we’re favoring certain wallets, institutions, or exchanges.

👥 User Activity and Quality

User activity is not my main focus quality is. I strongly believe that blockchain, not just crypto, is built collaboratively, and I won’t change that now.

I won’t reward spammers, but I do value users helping each other.

Our moderators will give “opportunities” to users who actively participate in meaningful ways (such as building something within the ecosystem like DAML apps, creating content, or helping other users), so we can continue to grow a thriving community.

The Canton community should value itself. We all know how many “trash” companies and projects are out there, so let’s strive to remain different for as long as possible. Again, spammers are not welcome.

🤫 Secret Roles

We will assign more secret roles to the community, limited to 625–675 in total.

We’ll give this role to various community members as we see fit — this could be for helping others, consistently creating quality content, or participating in events.

Given the community’s reaction to existing roles, I don’t want to dilute the system further or create new reasons for users to feel they’re being treated unfairly.
