Legendre's conjecture (1912) :- a prime always lies between n² and (n+1)²; traditionally credited to Legendre, but it entered the canon as one of Landau's problems.

Navier–Stokes existence and smoothness (1934) :- Leray's weak solutions left open whether 3D fluid solutions stay smooth or blow up.

Collatz conjecture (c. 1937) :- the 3n+1 iteration always reaches 1; Collatz circulated it but never published, so the date is conventional.

Jacobian conjecture (1939) :- Keller: a polynomial map with constant nonzero Jacobian has a polynomial inverse.

Hadwiger conjecture (1943):- a graph with no K_k minor is (k−1)-colourable.

Erdős–Straus conjecture (1948) :- 4/n is always a sum of three unit fractions.

Hodge conjecture (1950) :- from Hodge's ICM address in Cambridge, Massachusetts: certain cohomology classes on projective varieties are algebraic.

Invariant subspace problem (c. 1950) :- does every bounded operator on a separable Hilbert space have a non-trivial closed invariant subspace? Enflo posted a claimed proof in 2023 that experts have not accepted.

Yang–Mills existence and mass gap (1954 theory; Millennium Prize 2000) :- construct the quantum gauge theory rigorously and prove it has a positive mass gap.

Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture (1965) — the rank of an elliptic curve equals the order of vanishing of its L-function at s = 1.

Langlands functoriality (1967) :- from Langlands' letter to Weil: a deep correspondence between Galois representations and automorphic forms.

P vs NP (1971) :- Cook's formulation: can every efficiently checkable problem be efficiently solved?

abc conjecture (1985) :- Masser and Oesterlé: bounds on c in a + b = c via the radical of abc; Mochizuki's claimed proof is not accepted by most experts.
