It also weighs 0.6kg compared to 0.2kg for handheld. Storing a red flare could be useful. It's faster to equip and looks cooler as well. Mostly preference like you said

@Drewzpher @torokszabolcs12 @tarkovtips For what it's worth I've never failed a flare extract since 1.0, only used handheld. Run/walk up to the zone, wait for the "signal flare area" to pop up, shoot the flare at 70-75 degree angle standing still or walking. Can usually start running immediately, or wait for message.

@torokszabolcs12 @Drewzpher @tarkovtips I always shoot the handheld at like a 75 degree angle, I prefer the handheld because it's expendable, and seems less finicky than the flare gun. Just noted that in the clip it's shot at a very steep angle
