🚨 New Research Alert! 🚨
Polyconnectomic scoring of functional connectivity patterns across eight neuropsychiatric and three neurodegenerative disorders

Can we use the entire connectome to learn more about brain disorders?

Hello! Our new study where we investigated how genetic variants shape the functional wiring of our brains using UKB was just published.
🧵 Here are our main takeaways! (1/5) 🧵
When do machine learning models actually outperform standard polygenic scores? 🤔
In our new preprint, we benchmark how non-additive genetic effects (i.e, dominance deviations) shape polygenic prediction across simulated and UK Biobank traits.

A timeline of genetic changes in millions of years of human evolution suggests advances in cognitive abilities may have led to our vulnerability to mental illness. https://t.co/Gsq06p4r09
Hey!!
Rachel Brouwer, Martijn van de Heuvel and I wrote a book chapter on the genetics of neuroanatomy. We discuss twin literature on heritability of brain structural traits, followed by a discussion on GWAS findings

Our new preprint on "The genetic landscape of heterogeneity in human functional brain connectivity" is available on medRxiv. Check it out! @MJ_Schipper, Christiaan de Leeuw, @cato_romero, @khelwegen, @DPosthu, Jeanne Savage and Martijn van den Heuvel.

I'm so happy to share that our paper "Immune-developmental processes contribute to schizophrenia risk: insights from a genetic overlap study with height" has been published in Biological Psychiatry 🥳 https://t.co/dqGXiCntTB

6/ We’ve made available the scripts to compute PCS using MATLAB, R, and Python, along with a repository of meta-analytical CSS maps for 11 brain disorders, all mapped using 25 different cortical parcellation schemes. Now everyone can compute PCS on their own data!
8/ Many thanks to the co-authors of the study, including @khelwegen, @Marius_Gruber, @JonathanRepple, Tilo Kircher, Udo Dannlowski, and especially @martijnheuv, as well as my great colleagues at the CTG for their help and input.
The 7th event is scheduled for November 7th! We're excited to welcome @ILibedinsky , PhD candidate from @VUamsterdam , who will be presenting their work on quantifying brain connectivity signatures by means of polyconnectomic scoring! https://t.co/u688adBQ5k
#OHBM2024 Are you looking for an easy-to-use, interpretable connectomic marker that quantifies the presence of disease-related signatures in the brain? Visit poster 1907 to learn how polyconnectomic scores can enhance your research!
I’m very happy to share that our work on the genetic overlap between schizophrenia and height is now available on @medrxivpreprint 🎉 Link: https://t.co/jyuoxxJlYJ
