🟧 NEW: Save the Children Cuts Ties With BCG Over Gaza Role
Save the Children has suspended its work with Boston Consulting Group, calling the firm’s role in Gaza “utterly unacceptable,” The New Humanitarian reports. BCG helped set up the militarized Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and modeled the forced relocation/ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. CEO Inger Ashing said the work was “devoid of humanity” and raised legal and ethical concerns.
'Could (and should) private investors make up for US aid cuts in Afghanistan?' I spoke to @FAziziOfficial@binshah and @ABCDXB2005 about investing in Afghanistan and what role private investors can play in addressing the humanitarian need in the country

Some in host communities around Cox's Bazar have obsessed over Rohingya birth rates for years. How it plays out: Rohingya women coerced to use contraception in Bangladesh refugee camps. 🔎 @6oldberg https://t.co/x5F1ckaw6n
Are IOM and UNHCR going to be merged into a single organization?
It will be a messy business, with potentially serious consequences for refugee protection.
But UN restructuring is now high on the international agenda.

After two months of devastating blockade and starvation of Gaza, Israeli officials demand that we shut down the universal aid distribution system run by the UN and NGOs like NRC. They want to manipulate and militarize all aid to civilians, forcing us to deliver supplies through hubs designed by the Israeli military, once the government agrees to re-open crossings.
NRC will stand by our humanitarian principles and will, with all our peers, refuse to take part in this new scheme. We urge donors to do the same.

The current aid model breeds dependency. It undermines local innovation. And worse, it masks the rot beneath the surface, argues Micheal Gumisiriza, a humanitarian practitioner working with refugee-led organisations in Uganda.

It is shameful that this year’s Academy Award winner for Best Documentary, "No Other Land," has been unable to secure a theatrical or digital distributor in North America because it accurately portrays Israeli repression in the occupied West Bank. https://t.co/HVJchQl1UJ
Le système humanitaire est en crise ! Coupes budgétaires, manque de réactivité, dépendance aux bailleurs… Faut-il une refonte totale pour éviter l’effondrement ?

Read @newhumanitarian/@6oldberg's investigation into the death of Save the Children's Hisham al-Hakimi in #Houthi detention. I spoke about the increasing need for aid orgs to place red lines with the Houthis, including on aid diversion, in light of continued detentions + deaths.
