much personal growth is contingent on being fully honest with yourself
being fully honest with yourself, in turn, is contingent on being able to see yourself with compassion. if you can only see yourself through a shameful/judgemental lens, then you are by definition going to be seeing only a partial picture
shame causes contraction - we shrink away from it. that means that we are liable to hide parts of ourselves from our own judgemental gaze
a compassionate gaze can see everything, because everything expands under its eye. that doesn't mean we let ourselves 'get away with things' - it means we see things just as they are, accepting ourselves as the flawed & fallible creatures that we are
'yes you messed up, but you meant well' is usually a more honest statement than 'you messed up, there's something wrong with you'. shame keeps us addicted to the latter, but to no one's benefit
A humble request to the owners of #jalalsons in #Lahore .. I was waiting outside one of your stores where I saw the foodpada rider standing outside on the steps at arpund 3PM today. The temperature was 42Β° and it was extremely hot. When the rider arrived to collect the order he was assigned, the guard did not allow him to enter the store. Why? Why was he asked to stand outside and wait while his order is prepared? I stayed outside to watch this all. The person with him came out twice to confirm the order and kept him waiting in the sun. No shade. No relief from thr heat. He asked for water and was declined rather snubbed. This is inhuman and racist behavior. Koi khuda ka khouf karein.
your brain is always becoming better at whatever you repeatedly do. thatβs why repetition changes people more than motivation ever will. if you spend every day stressing, overthinking, comparing yourself to strangers online, replaying old mistakes, and expecting the worst, your brain slowly starts treating those patterns like home. it begins scanning the world for more proof that youβre not enough, that life is against you, that things wonβt work out. the scary part is your brain doesnβt care if the pattern is helping you or destroying you. it only cares about what gets repeated.
but the same thing works in your favor too. when you repeatedly choose discipline, growth, gratitude, focus, and belief in yourself, your brain slowly reshapes around those things as well. at first it feels unnatural because your old patterns are louder, but over time your perspective changes. challenges stop feeling like signs to quit and start feeling like part of the process. your mind becomes whatever it practices most. so be careful what you keep giving your attention to because eventually, your thoughts become your reality.
rock bottom is just a concept. my brother used to tell me if you feel like you are in rock bottom and give up thinking it cannot get worse. it usually gets worse. so what you definitely want at rock bottom is the will to make it better in whatever small way possible.
Major life hack: Don't complain, ever. Nobody likes a complainer. They drain the energy of everyone around them. It's exhausting spending time around someone who constantly complains about things outside their control. If itβs within your control, go do something about it. If itβs not, youβre just wasting energy thinking about it. Complaining gives too much power to the thing. Take back that power.
The lack of news on Gaza isnβt because the genocide is over.
Itβs because Israel slaughtered the journalists and Western media pretends thereβs a ceasefire.
