On 10th January 2024, Rotary India Literacy Mission (RILM) in collaboration with Coal India Limited (CIL) achieved a truly transformative milestone with the inauguration of 12 Vidya Adult Literacy Centres in Sukinda, Jajpur, Odisha.
45-year-old Kausar Bano, from the village of Madina Muslim Tola of Jharkhand gained confidence after acquiring skills of reading and writing through the Adult Literacy Program run by RILM in collaboration with Coal India Limited (CIL).
What made Suchitra’s journey extraordinary is her learning from ground up through the Adult Literacy Program implemented by RILM at Kheria Vidya Centre in North 24 Pgs, West Bengal with the CSR support of Coal India Limited.

Dispelling Darkness – The Power of Literacy
RILM in collaboration with Coal India Limited have established 375 Vidya Centres across districts of West Bengal, touching lives of 15,000 adult non-literates. Literacy isn’t just a skill –it’s freedom, independence and dignity.
RILM is excited to join hands with Coal India Limited to empower 50,000 non-literate adults in West Bengal, Jharkhand & Odisha through imparting functional literacy for improving their socio-economic opportunities. We are hopeful to reachout to many more in the days to come.
A total of 500 ration kits were distributed in Oct & Nov by RILM in the flood affected Areas of the Ramnagar Gram Panchayat & Bongaon Municipality. The elected representatives extended the helping hands in both the places. Each kit contained materials amounting to 7.25 Kgs.

RILM and IFBN joined forces to fight food security problems. The dedication of local Rotary Clubs made it possible in West Bengal for 20,000 people to receive regular meals.
There was an orientation program at Bhadrapara Gilarchat High School about RILM’s Diksha (each-one-teach-one) model. Around 250 students from classes 9-11 who would be making the non-literate adults literate under Adult Literacy program.
There was an orientation program at Taldi Surobala Balika Vidyala about RILM’s Diksha (each-one-teach-one) model. The Head Mistress ensured that there would be total 600 students from classes 7-12 who would be making the non-literate adults literate under Adult Literacy program.
Urmul Rural Health Research and Development Trust has been successfully implementing 30 Vidya centres in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, under RILM's Adult Literacy program since May 2024, benefiting 900 learners in collaboration with RC Mumbai Royales & support from Rashi Peripherals Ltd.
