And the bad news - got the debrief on the status of our 500+ Acropora cervicornis outplants in the Dry Tortugas. They are all dead or nearly dead. One of the best acroporid sites coral cover wise along the Florida Keys reef tract is now a wasteland. There are no words.
New paper out today from my group (first-authored by my recent postdoc Dr. Leila Chapron and in collaboration with Dr. Ilsa Kuffner's group) showing hope for Acropora palmata restoration in Florida. @osuearthscience@osuresearch@ASCatOSU@USGS

Healthy coral reefs can serve as national, natural infrastructure, supporting critical biodiversity and reducing flood risks to coastal communities from storms and sea-level rise. Storlazzi's research was presented at an international symposium this week: https://t.co/cVyV5M2tzQ
👎 The bad news for Florida #coralreefs: #climatechange & other disturbances are causing less growth & more erosion.
👍 The good news: New research shows that #coralrestoration efforts could bring #coral reef growth back to historic levels!
