@enele_afu Visualizing our past selves, each one with a smile of approval, is a beautiful reminder of the evolution and growth we’ve experienced throughout life. It’s a motivating image to keep moving forward. JAHBLESS Taciqu!

I was at a gas station in a super car a while back (when I had one) and a young kid offered me a free sample of his cologne.
I said sure - hoping he’d hand it to me then go away.
He then pulled out a massive bottle and asked me which wrist I wanted it on.
*ahh fuck*—>Commitment & consistency.
This one. As I held out my right wrist. Again - hoping he’d go away.
He held the bottle before spraying and began talking about the natural pheromones they put in the bottle.
Not a bad open loop to deliver a pitch with (as an aside).
It was a poor sales pitch but I appreciated the effort and the strategy.
He then asked if I’d buy a bottle for $50.
I said I didn’t wear cologne but I’d pay him $20 for the effort. Think of like an entrepreneurial “tip.”
I held out my credit card.
He didn’t have a way to process it on him.
He asked if I had cash. I didn’t.
He said his partner had the card processor.
His partner was talking to a group of people at a pump on the other side.
My guy walked over and waited their silently (for FIVE minutes) rather than just asking the partner for the card processor.
Meanwhile, my car filled and the gas pump *clicked*
I got in my car and closed the door.
The kid - visibly frustrated (with me) said “bro wait”
I began driving away and rolled down the window: “listen man, I started my career in high volume transactional sales like you. If I wait, and you get $20, you won’t remember this lesson. If I leave, you might. Which will be worth more than $20 to you…
1) Always have a way to accept payment
2) when the person offers payment, stop talking immediately and close the sale
3) One in the hand if better than two in the bush. You were so concerned not to mess up your partner, you lost a sale.”
I thought about that interaction a lot.
And I think I can consolidate the advice I gave him (and anyone who sells) into two words: Stay ready.
"When building habits, choose consistency over content. The best book is the one you can’t put down. The best exercise is the one you enjoy doing every day. The best health food is the one you find tasty. The best work is the work you’d do for free."
