A man with an annual income of just Rs 722 was granted permission to manufacture 50,000 cars a year - a production capacity equal to the combined output of all three car companies operating in India at the time.

His company existed for five years, yet its total production never exceeded 20 cars. Of those 20, not a single one was sold to the general public.

The so-called indigenous car was powered by a German engine that had allegedly been brought into the country as "personal baggage." The car failed every official test, yet it still received government clearance. A minister even told Parliament that it had passed the toughest tests.

To support this car project, a Reserve Bank of India Governor was forced into retirement and a new law was introduced to remove the State Bank of India Chairman.

At the Lahore conference organized by the Jat-Pat Todak Mandal, B. R. Ambedkar was supposed to deliver a speech, but it was cancelled due to disagreements over its content.Ambedkar later published the speech himself, where he narrated the story of the “broom and pot.”

According to this account, under the Peshwa regime, Mahars and other lower castes were allegedly forced to wear an earthen pot around their necks and a broom tied behind their waist. They were also made to wear a black thread or band on their wrist. The broom, it was said, was meant to wipe away their footprints as they walked, while the pot served as a spittoon so that their saliva would not “pollute” the roadside for others.

It was on this very account that Y. N. Kelkar, son of Narasimha Chintaman Kelkar and a writer himself, sought clarification from Ambedkar. Kelkar argued:

“More than fifty diaries from the Peshwa period have recently come to light such as the Wadkrit Peshwa Diaries, the Peshwa Daftar Diaries, and several other records collected by the British. Yet not a single one of them mentions any such practice.”

He further stated:

“To establish the degraded position of the lower castes within the varna system, Dr. Ambedkar appears to be relying on a fabricated story to malign Brahmins and other castes without any factual basis. Even in the stage play Dakhancha Diva, directed by Yashwant Tipnis, a character named Shidnak Mahar is shown wearing a pot around his neck and a broom tied behind him. I ask: what is the basis of this depiction? There are hundreds and thousands of papers in the archives, yet none speak of such a practice.”

समस्या ये है कि काफ़िर बिना पूरी तैयारी के इलसाम से भिड़ते है और मार खाते है। शेष काफिरो का मनोबल टूट जाता है और मुसलमानों का इलसाम में विश्वास बढ़ जाता है।

Let's go back to 1835. Around 30–40 students are seated in a mud-walled village school. Among them are a Brahmin, a Shudra, a Kayastha, a Dhobi, and a Chandal (today classified as a Mahadalit). The teacher, too, is a Chandal.
