A free idea: an article on how The Atlantic magazine in particular has been a disastrous & toxic influence on Democratic party elites, since it is the key ideological source for Biden-style resistance liberalism (the attempt to counter 21st century right-wing populism with Cold War liberalism Redux: great power competition, military Keynesianism, unquestioning Zionism, & patriotic piety, suppression of the left alternative)
When PERCEPTION (even if untrue) becomes voting REALITY—
📍If you believed crime rates near all-time high (False), you voted Trump.
📍If you believed inflation hasn’t declined (False—inflation fell a lot), then you voted Trump.
📍If you believed stock market is down / not near record highs (False), you voted Trump.
📍If you believed illegal border crossings near record highs recently (False), you voted Trump.
Disinformation/misinformation clearly favors one side.
That’s because the Democratic Party has continued to fail to prioritize a strong, working class message that addressed issues that really matter to workers. The party did not make a positive case for why workers should vote for them, only that they were not Donald Trump.
That’s not good enough anymore! Rather than offer a positive agenda on what immigrant workers bring to our country, they bought into the punitive, “tough,” anti-worker messaging that is championed by Trump, even though we know it’s the bosses’ fault.
“Democrats have to move right”
To the right of campaigning with Liz Cheney and promising Republicans cabinet seats?
No. This is what Democrats running to the right looks like.
The future is centering the working class, being pro-peace, and advocating for Medicare for all.
her differentiator was literally “i’m the only reasonable voice on Gaza” and as soon as presented with that layup, she balked. instead pandered to immigration hardliners & crypto(?), and telegraphed that she’d sack wildly popular FTC Chair against backdrop of consumer frustration
Israeli media reporting that the IDF is declaring northern Gaza effectively ethnically cleansed, not event a hint of pretense now that its election day
The consultants behind Harris’s campaign — reigning in the ‘weird’ line, bringing in the Cheneys, completely spurning Uncommitted and all the student protestors — should never work in Washington again (they will)
In the coming days there's gonna be a lot of opining about what the Harris campaign did wrong, but this election was not an indictment of Kamala Harris. It was an indictment of America.
I’m devastated by tonight’s apparent result, which I believe—because of who Trump is and how he campaigned—will be horrible for the people I love, for all of America, for Ukraine, for Gaza, and for much of the rest of the world.
If they had a lick of sense and an ounce of bravery they would go scorched earth in these final months. Lost the presidency and the senate? Just do it. But I don’t think they have it in them.
I really have to wonder how much of this is from housing costs. housing is the most expensive part of most people’s budget and prices have legitimately skyrocketed all over the country due to NIMBYism
