Our students are engaged, empowered, and empathetic individuals with the strength of character and the strength of voice to make a difference in the world.
May is a time to raise awareness of those living with mental or behavioral health issues and to help reduce the stigma so many experience. We can support ourselves and others each and everyday with kindness, love, and empathy. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth#sel#breakthestigma
Our latest testimonial is a video from Sogolon, our math lead and ILS parent.

Last week, our Earth Day Market & Fair was a huge success! ILS students of all ages worked hard creating and selling sustainable products to raise money for the crisis in Ukraine. It was a great day for the ILS community coming together to celebrate and support a worthy cause.
Come celebrate with us on Earth Day! Test your knowledge with a waste sorting game, get gooey making seed balls, and pick up an handmade earth friendly gift with all proceeds going to support the Ukraine crisis. #earthday#sustainableliving#ukraine@novaukraine
More than 3 mil people have fled Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion 3 weeks ago. Compassion & kind thoughts are greatly appreciated, but action is needed. Please donate to organizations such as Nova Ukraine who are providing direct support to those most affected.
Thank you Weavers Wildlife for bringing some reptilian friends to ILS! We learned about their natural habitat, behaviors, and adaptations. #reptile#snake#wildlifelovers#lizards#skink
“Creativity, flexibility, scientific thinking and problem solving are at the core of everything they do as a community. This was also reflected in the school’s response to the pandemic and transition to online learning. Our child did not miss an academic year.”
What would an animal post on social media? After our mini hibernation investigation, Ss got creative with before and after social media posts from the perspective of a hibernating animal! #hibernation#animals#socialmedia#creativity
This week we were visited by ceramic experts, Corinna and Sally, who showed us how to make ceramic totems that represent us as individuals. We will be stacking them to create a community totem pole as part of our Native American History Museum coming soon. Stay tuned! #ceramics
The culprit has been caught! In the garden, our cabbage and brussel sprouts have been covered in holes and we’ve found out why. After the removal of these hungry pests, Ss researched to identify and solve for the problem: Cabbage moth larvae. Stay tuned for natural pest remedies.
We took a virtual field trip to the @calacademy to investigate their bone collection. We watched flesh eating beetles at work & learned how structure of teeth can help determine what an animal eats. We exercised our scientific sketching skills with these spooktacular skulls!
Reading out loud is a great way to deepen our understanding & strengthen our fluency. Our reading buddies take time to ask questions like, “What will happen next?”, and, “Why do you think the author wrote that?” Young readers practice fluency & ask their older peers for support.
It is October and there is no better way to celebrate than a visit to the pumpkin patch! We had a fun visit to our local nursery, Summer Winds. #fall#pumpkinpatch#shoplocal
Our school garden is one of the centerpieces of our learning community. Ss take responsibility for the success of the plants. As we move into fall, Ss noticed opportunities and areas for growth. We will research, present a pitch to & receive feedback #schoolgarden#collaboration
Being an intentionally small school, ILS students of all ages get to learn with and from each other. Mixed age reading buddies is an activity looked forward to each week, no matter how old! #readingbuddy
Last week we had a great time with our #NASA Ames Virtual Expedition! We toured the International Space Station, learned about centripetal force demonstrated with balloons and pennies, and made our own Mars helicopter! #STEAM#handsonlearning#iss#experiments@NASAAmes
