Some raw personal take from attending the Obfuscation Workshop for a week:
- iO feel like pre-pinocchio arc of ZKP. (fun fact) We are the only workshop that shared a GitHub repository
- People are exploring different approaches, yes there are promising approaches but no defined way, still new attacks + new schemes rotate like a cat and rat game
- So probably because of that lots of discussions around reducing theoretical complexity + improving security assumptions were the main.
- Interestingly, although iO research had been around for a long time without significant acceleration, the recent works(post 2022~) are moving fast - (mb im biased) but lattice-based obfuscation seems to be where consensus is heading towards
- In general, it was a wonderful experience to be with a small group of people who believe in technology 10yrs ahead and try to push the most fundamental niddles of theory from now with its pure enjoyment and higher purpose (iO had been considered most challenging/end game).
- (fun fact 2) last day of the workshop all the researchers sing a song together "iO song" (one joke was saying no one will sing a song at the proof workshop haha)
I find it fascinating how different L2s have differentiated themselves.
It’s clearer than ever that ZKsync will be the platform for serious business, financial applications and institutions coming onchain.
ZKsync everywhere.
April 25th is an important day in zkVM history.
Top zkVM teams will gather at the first @eth_proofs call to scale Ethereum🤩
I'm excited to see everyone together ❤️
I built my first ZK game!
And you don't need a wallet or funds to play - just a laptop.
It uses ZKsync SSO + Succinct Prover Network.

✅ Every line of code in Jolt zkVM in 5 hours
Jolt is the simplest codebase I've seen so far, which makes sense if you know the name stands for "Just One Lookup Table".
Jolt makes many unique cryptography choices: for example, using Sumcheck (most other zkVMs are stark/fri based), as well as the new Twist and Shout memory checking arguments.
Also, Jolt is working on Formal Verification. Because of it's simple codebase, I imagine they'll actually be able to formally verify the entire zkVM in the future. This would be a HUGE accomplishment, as it would mean there are essentially zero bugs in the code.
Great work @a16zcrypto team!
NEW MILESTONE: @zksync Era makes progress on decentralizing its sequencer!!!
As of today, a new consensus algorithm called ChonkyBFT is used by zksync Era validator nodes to vote on all newly created blocks!
I don't even want to make fun of Toly because I just feel bad at this point. I can't imagine being this negative on crypto:
1. Toly is bearish on new apps: "There are like only 6 major smart contracts that matter."
2. Toly is bearish on new blockchain architecture: "There are no 10x improvements left in crypto".
3. Today, Toly says he doesn't even trade on Solana. (https://t.co/NjgZ3OphMz)
4. Even worse, he follows it up by saying he's not the target user for his own blockchain (there's no defending this).
Someone needs to reignite some fire in him. Maybe full FD mainnet will bring him joy. To my Solana friends building exciting new things in ZK, MPC, and beyond, please share your cool projects with him.
Toly: if you come visit Austin TX I'll take you to some good bbq.
@StaniKulechov@JaEsf Because of my position I don’t even trade on chain. Every once in a while I’ll do a usdc/usdt $1 swap to test priority fee pricing.
Unless you are a socialist, profit == value consumer derives from the product excess of labor and costs.
📢 If you want to learn cryptography:
I'm helping a new account called @zkillustrated that will be posting daily cryptography topics.
The goal is to be fun, simple, and easy to learn.
They made their first post today.
❤️ It'd mean A LOT to me if you could follow them ❤️
I'm very impressed by the Abstract team. They've put in a ton of work to get everything ready for mainnet. Can't wait to see all of CT talking about them soon 🙂
