Aparajito – The Undefeated, is a 2022 Indian Bengali-language film directed and co-written by Anik Dutta. The film is based on the making of the all time classic film Pather Panchali by Satyajit Ray.

This is the best biographical film of an Indian cinema legend I have ever seen. The legend, who influenced many filmmakers around the world. He is Mr. Sathyajit Ray.

I suggest anyone who calls themself a filmmaker and took shortcuts to craft a movie, should watch this film. It would be a great case study for them to unlearn the way they learnt filmmaking.

I also suggest this film, who wants to kick start their filmmaking passion, to learn from the legend how he focused his passion.

I also suggest this film to non filmmakers to feel the glory of Indian cinema and it’’s pride.

Congratulations to the writers and director, who really took a different path to just narrate the classical tale how it was made.

Here are a few best scenes I liked from this film.

About the poem told by Rabindranath Tagore to Mr.Ray. Director took no reference to what that poem is but he easily convinced what it could be.
Choosing Subrata Mitra who is a still photographer as a cinematographer for the film Pather Panchali, and Ray explaining the difference between still photography and cinematography.
Importance of a storyboard in filmmaking.
The scene where he took the train approaching shot twice to blend it into one shot for which he had to break a basic editing rule, which is outstanding.
Ray’s focus on music sittings.

Actors have performed very well, so I felt just seeing the real characters.
And the elegant costumes for them, especially Saayoni Ghosh who played the Bijoya Ray character.

And I love cinematography by Supratim Bhol. Good to see 100% grayscale frames.

Overall it’s a must watch film to know about the legendary work by a legend.
