The Law Is Not Apartheid. The Application Is.
In the narrow lanes of Kaserua, the Mustafa Qadri mosque was never grand. It was just a modest structure on the edge of the graveyard, the one place where the dead could be prayed over before they were buried.
For generations Janaza namaz was offered there. Everyone knew the land records called the plot government property.
Everyone also knew that half the temples and shrines across Uttar Pradesh sit on government land, on roadsides, in thana compounds and court premises, without a single paper to their name, and that nobody ever sends a bulldozer for them.
On 6 June the bulldozers came for this one. They cleared 120 square metres of the graveyard plot and called the mosque an encroachment.
And then they found the posters. The posters which have the power to break the peace of the land.
Forty-nine of them, each carrying the same three dangerous words:
"I ♥️ Muhammad."
Can you believe it, Muslims are proclaiming their love for their prophet. How seditious, how dangerous for the peace of the nation.
And they found a green flag too, the kind that hangs in countless homes and on the backs of trucks.
Within hours an FIR was filed against eight men from the mosque committee, and the posters and the flag were spoken of as things that needed investigating, as if a few words of devotion and a green piece of cloth were proof of some plot to break the peace of the nation.
The rule on paper is the same for everyone. It is only the hand that applies it that seems to know which god you pray to.
This is not some fringe complaint. In November 2024 the Supreme Court itself said punitive demolitions are unconstitutional.
It said no structure can be pulled down without proper notice and a hearing, and that the government cannot act as a judge by reducing a building to rubble.
In the same judgment the court condemned the exact logic that was used in Kaserua, the habit of calling one structure an illegal encroachment while the very same kind of illegal structures stand all around it, untouched. That is what happened.
The mosque was on government land. So are half the shrines in the district. Only one of them met a bulldozer.
And this is a pattern, the posters were not a local oddity. Since September 2025 those same three words, I ♥️ Muhammad, have led to more than twenty FIRs across the country, naming thousands of people.
The police have treated them as provocation, as the starting of a new tradition, as a threat to communal harmony.
Words that people write freely on rickshaws and shop shutters were suddenly read as evidence. When the same words become a crime in town after town, you cannot keep saying the case just happened to come up. A coincidence does not repeat itself on government orders.
And that is the tell. A demolition can always be dressed up in land records. An FIR over I Love Muhammad cannot.
It says the thing the bulldozer leaves unsaid, that the quietest expression of faith, the kind nobody would look at twice on a wall or a windshield, becomes a crime the moment the state decides whose faith it is.
One community's religious need is an encroachment that has to be crushed before nightfall. The other community's is tradition that has to be respected and flaunted on roads.
The words of the law never change between the two. Only the way it is applied does.
The graveyard is still there. The dead will still need their prayers, and now those prayers will be said in the open, under the same administration that decided a small mosque and forty-nine posters were worth a criminal case.
You do not need a grand theory to see what happened in Kaserua. You only need to ask why the law that could not tolerate this one structure has never once noticed the thousands of others exactly like it. The rule was equal. The hand was not.
After all, this Sanghi 5000-year culture has its own twist on apartheid. It is the new Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, in equal parts communalism.

At Dr. Vinay Gandhi Hospital, a patient was called a "terror!st" just because of a Muslim name.
Upon seeing the case file of a young man named Suthar Moin, a medical store employee—driven by religious hatred—publicly exclaimed, "The terror!sts have arrived!"
When the victim went to the hospital chief, Dr. Vinay Gandhi, and reported the incident, the doctor—instead of reprimanding the staff member—arrogantly declared, "Call whomever you want, even the media; I have no problem with that!" This irresponsible attitude displayed by the doctor has sparked anger among the people nearby.
