Back from a fantastic two days in Somerset- yesterday we learned all about how our Wessex incident room works. Today we visited @WWTSteart to learn how salt marches help reduce carbon, increase biodiversity and improves mental health. Some amazing work going on out there!

I have had an interest in flood management ever since I was little because my mum told me about these events too (she was 5 and remembers bits of that night and the subsequent 1.5 years living away from their village).

I remain proud of the fact I now work in flood management.

This is a letter from my grandad to his brother, written on 2 February 1953, telling him of how the events unfolded for his family as the flood waters from the 1953 flood disaster (which impacted NL even more than the UK) reached their home.

A long weekend away in Prague and couldn’t help asking more when hearing about their 2002 floods- up to the top of the grey line on picture 1. They put barriers up now to protect the city, our guide said. Just like our Bewdley ones! Just miles and miles of it 🤩 #busmansholiday

Busman’s holiday again for me today 😃Teamed up with friend and colleague Tyanna to hike to the Source of the Severn. Added Clywedog reservoir for good measure. Last time I visited Clywedog I was at Uni. So proud to say I now work in the field I learned about 24 years back.

Yesterday we visited Diglis Fishpass as part of a meeting between our team and our place/area managers. An interesting educative afternoon out, delivered with real passion by @ChrisBaingerEA. 28 different species of fish passed through this pass since it opened.

@DaveThroup I would love to find out more of the logic behind it before I’d support it. Birmingham and the Black Country is full of heritage, yet they rank extremely low. I expect because of a load of other factors. I just think the link with proximity to heritage is very tedious.
