Every day another news story says Britain is under pressure from global instability.
Why can’t we just build homes, and clean energy, with secure jobs?
Turns out the answer is even better than I thought.
See what you think.

(Long post alert!)
I remember becoming interested in regeneration in our area around 20 years ago.
It was after seeing the front page of the Sentinel with “£500m worth of investment coming” on the front page. I can still imagine that front page now.
I remember thinking how exciting it might be to see such development here. It felt like being at the bottom of a hill that had a fantastic promised land at the top and the journey was just starting.
I’ve seen and heard it all since then…

And during all that; the lies, the broken promises, the mistruths and failures. I can honestly say this area has become worse.
Every. Single. Year.
For 20 years. Year, after year.
I’ve seen them all come and go. Prime Ministers. Cabinet members. MPs. Council leaders. Councillors. Mayors. Newspaper editors. Journalists. University Leaders. Directors. Heads Of Quangos. Various other snake oil salesman.
They’ve all failed. To varying degrees perhaps. But fundamentally failed.
Failed to deliver.
Failed to tell the truth.
Failed to hold to account.
We’ve watched our childhoods, teenage years, institutions and various historical landmarks burn, crumble and disintegrate in front of our eyes. Along with the opportunity for so many others.
As I’ve asked before. What message does that directly and indirectly tell the people who live here?
What they are worth?
What are their lives are worth?
What does politics and society thinks of them?
What is our history worth?
What do young people think?
The answers to these questions should shame us all.
And yet. And. Yet. Despite all of that, the people of this area remain the warmest, strongest and proudest people I know. That feeling of catching a snippet of a local word or accent, seeing a local football badge or observing someone else checking a ceramic back stamp remains special and unique.
Yes, there are some very small green shoots at the moment. And there is nobody more than me that loves seeing progress in this area, whether at Smithfield, Goods Yard, Spode, Astley Walk, Kar Parc, Longton Exchange, Piccadilly and a few others.
I’ve found hope in other places as well. Some fantastic local media. Duck magazine, The Knot, Staffordshire Signal and Cultural Quarter of an Hour Podcast. But despite as much support as I can muster, only two of those organisations still exist.
But all of these things is like bailing out the ocean with a teaspoon.
I worry now, unlike 20 years ago, we don’t just have a hill to climb.
It’s Everest.
We need a paradigm shift. Evolution not revolution, with very big asks and ideas. And I believe “North Staffordshire” is a part of that.
But the need is enormous.
The consequences for not meeting that need, at this point, fill me with dread & despair.
But a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
.@TheGreenParty need to raise £200k in just over 30 days for the Holborn and St Pancras by-election.
If you can donate, however small or large, the link is in the comments.
This is a high-stakes by-election and we’re here to replace Labour.
Donate today. ✊💚
in response to the american silliness of renaming things the uk has renamed the following cities to have the prefix not, it is now not washington not boston not new york not birmingham not cambridge not manchester not bristol not rochester not worcester.
Hours after the announcement, Greens are already out in Holborn & St Pancras.
Tonight was our first canvass of the by-election and the conversations have already begun. Labour have held this seat for decades. We’re going to give them a fight.

Across the country, wildfires are raging.
The Prime Minister needs to call a COBRA meeting and treat the climate crisis with the urgency this moment calls for.
@Heidi_Labour On things anyone gives a shit about, this is so at the bottom of the fucking list that the only thing that is less important is renaming post offices.
The Green Party of England and Wales are growing in the polls, currently at 15% nationally, according to YouGov. 📈
Another poll with the Greens up, and another with Reform down 👀
