Saw a post from an old Arsenal Women’s player in the late 90s with a magazine the team did. One of the categories/questions was “footballers they fancy.” Those players really walked so today’s could run cause I would have been livid.

I do however believe she could and should have requested Chelsea’s announcements to be more sensitive. Like the badge tap wasn’t needed. That part was inviting anger. However nothing invites this level of abuse.

In women’s football their livelihood needs to be put over rivalries. McCabe has built a life in London that keeps her mentally healthy and she needs a team that matches her professional level. On the contracts we are aware of there wasn’t actually a lot of options.

You should be invested and emotional about it cause we are fans and without that we aren’t happy for positive things as well. But just think about how you show that.

It is normal/expected to be angry about McCabe moving to a direct rival. It’s a MAJOR shock. Crazy upset . But let’s not be absolutely vile and disgusting online about it! Banter and censored anger is normal but tagging and absolutely ripping apart a human being is horrendous.

I am not saying this to support her as a player, obviously LDNISRED but she is a human and some of you guys are being horrifically nasty to another human. Talk to your friends about it, tell you dog, heck journal about it. Learn to share your upset without degrading people.

@TraceyLeeHolmes Funny thing is as well that once they didn’t have to sit in front of the media and got to speak to the fans they were lovely and happier. I bloody spoke to Alanna about her sunglasses, they are people! I think the entire thing was too centred around being in front of a camera.

@TraceyLeeHolmes I just wanted to say you were a lovely media person yesterday. Whilst I don’t think the players should have been forced to do this so soon with emotions high, you cared about not blocking the fans. The 7 TV network cameras had complete disregard for the fact it was a fan day.

@TraceyLeeHolmes That being said no one should expect the players to put on happy faces. This sport is their life, they just had a loss that most of us will forget quickly, but for some of them they won’t have a chance to get to that place again, it’s career affecting.

@ejburke_ I don’t think the fan day was thought through. The fans stood behind 7 huge TV cameras and couldn’t see anyone. I wish it was more about showing them that they did such a great job making it as far as they did. Not about forcing cameras in their faces then being forced to sign.
