feels like such an easy win for european countries to give their founders building in silicon valley regular airtime on their biggest national tv channels?
not on business channels but on the shows regular people watch anyway (we underestimate how much pull old media still has, especially in europe)
seems like a pretty simple way to 1) give founders much more visibility in general society (& make their families proud), 2) show people across generations wtf is going on at the frontlines & 3) inspire a few kids to try to do it even better & bigger
Choosing an AI assistant is starting to feel a little like choosing a pet.
@clairejyz calls it “the Tamagotchification of tech.”
OpenAI unveiled Dots, always-on agents with their own cloud computers that can use browsers and connected apps to complete tasks. As assistants learn your preferences and get things done, personality could become another reason to keep the same one around.
@Machiz asks, “Do you want the smartest intelligence or do you want the one that makes you want to give it a hug?”

the trouble with king making this early is that genuinely smart people drop much weirder & wayyyy cooler ideas to spend years competing with the company that just got funded to the moon
6/ https://t.co/emyJEJBqxN is much bigger now & became the biggest student-run technical organization of its kind in germany with 1.000+ active members (working with labs like deepmind, meta ai etc)
i’m obviously very happy about that
but i think my favorite version will always be 5 weirdos in a room at midnight discussing why graph neural nets don’t scale
1/ berlin is cool because tech nerds usually aren’t schemers
in 2022, together with 2 friends, we were reading papers every week in our ‘studi cafe’ & pretty quickly grew the group to more than 10 ppl
we’d meet every wednesday & each session was meant to last 1h but everyone would almost always stay for >5h well into the night
5/ i think that’s the main reason it worked & why a lot of us became super close
people stayed and started to also talk about (mostly failed) relationships, stupid ideas, jobs, what they were going to do with their lives & much more
a lot of people from that room are still my closest friends
