I just watched @TOLOnews interview with the brother of the late Afghan astronaut Abdul Ahad Momand.
The journalist conducting it understood exactly who he was speaking to: a man who had just buried his brother. His questions were measured, his tone calm, and gave the grieving man the space to speak.
I’m genuinely happy to see that although Afghans have lived through nearly five decades of uninterrupted war and so much was taken from them, but this young journalist is a reminder that humility and respect for human dignity survives even the longest wars.
He deserves credit for good journalism and I tried to find him on X so I could thank him personally, but I couldn’t, so I’m thanking him here, and his team, @saadmohseni
Good journalism isn’t only about asking tough questions, it’s also about knowing when to step back, allow silence, give people the space to grieve, and simply let them speak or remain silent.
