1️⃣ IBS — The Most Common “Invisible” Gut Disorder 💩🧠
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a chronic functional gastrointestinal disorder marked by:
➡️ Recurrent abdominal pain
➡️ Altered bowel habits (constipation, diarrhea, or both)
No ulcers. No tumors.
It’s a gut–brain interaction disorder, not structural disease.
Diagnosis is positive, not “by exclusion.”

A Bangladeshi company is now selling a generic version of a life-saving cystic fibrosis drug — at a fraction of the cost.
Beximco Pharmaceuticals reverse-engineered Boston-based Vertex’s Trikafta, which retails for $346,000 a year, NYT reported. Vertex has been criticized for its monopoly on the drug, for blocking generic versions, and for not making the drug available in several countries. Vertex makes about $10 billion a year from Trikafta.
“It has been so heartbreaking trying to keep my son alive…accessing Vertex’s drugs was impossible for me. I was forced to watch my son get sicker as they got rich,” Mustafizur Rahman Munshi said of his 6-year-old in a Beximco press release.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that leads to overproduction of mucus, leading to blocked airways, infections, and shortened lifespans. About 162,000 people live with cystic fibrosis globally, with a further 80,000 remaining undiagnosed.
Because Bangladesh is considered a “least-developed country,” it’s exempt from WTO patent infringement laws. It also means they can export their version of generic drugs to countries where the drugs aren’t patented. During COVID-19, Beximco exported generics of several antiviral drugs. That’s when parents of cystic fibrosis patients reached out to Beximco.
“I said, ‘If we are capable of manufacturing this, I am committing we will do this for you,’” Rabbur Reza, Beximco’s COO, told NYT. Beximco’s version sells for $6,350 a year for children, or $12,750 a year for adults.
Beximco is a subsidiary of Beximco Group, Bangladesh’s largest conglomerate, generating $2 billion a year, and was founded by brothers Ahmed and Salman Rahman in the 1970s.
Vertex isn’t too pleased with Beximco. “Companies that commercialize a generic version of Trikafta have not had to bear the notable cost of drug discovery and development,” a spokesperson told The Guardian.

You swallow more bacteria from your own mouth every day than you'd get from most probiotic supplements.
1 mL of saliva holds around 100 million bacteria, and you swallow roughly 750 mL of it a day. That's about 80 billion bacteria heading into your gut every 24 hours.
They don't all get wiped out in your stomach. A big fraction survive and seed it.
- Your mouth is the upstream source of your gut microbiome
- A dysbiotic mouth re-seeds it with the wrong bugs daily
- There's a free routine and one specific oral probiotic you can use to fix it.
Here's the oral-gut axis, and how to clean up the upstream end.
