“I am writing to ask you to help amplify the voices of Iraqi women who are speaking out against Iraq’s new Ja’afari Personal Status Code.

The law has raised serious concerns among Iraqi women and human rights organizations because of its impact on women’s rights within marriage, divorce, inheritance, and the care and guardianship of children. Human Rights Watch has documented provisions that can allow a husband to change the legal framework governing his marriage without his wife’s knowledge or consent, allow divorce without informing her or obtaining her consent, and automatically transfer responsibility and care of children to the father after the age of seven, regardless of the child’s best interests. (Human Rights Watch)

For Iraqi mothers, the issue is deeply personal. A woman should not have to fear that her relationship with her own children can be weakened or taken out of her hands because of a legal system that gives greater authority to men. Women should not have to choose between their safety, their independence, and their children.

This is not simply a religious or political debate. It is about women’s equality, bodily autonomy, family rights, and the ability of women to make decisions about their own lives.

I am asking Let Women Speak to help bring international attention to what Iraqi women are facing and, most importantly, to give Iraqi women a platform to speak for themselves.

Women in Iraq deserve to be heard. Their rights should not disappear simply because they are women, and their voices should not be silenced when laws directly affect their lives and their children.

دراسة جامعة الملك سعود عن النقاب عام 2012 عن أثر لبس النقاب طويل الأمد على وظائف التنفس
لقت مؤشرات كفاءة التنفس عند المنقبات أقل بنحو 28–30% وكل ما زادت ساعات ارتداء النقاب انخفضت بعض مؤشرات التنفس أكثر وناقشت الدراسة احتمالية تأثير مقاومة الهواء والحرارة والرطوبة واحتباس جزء من ثاني أكسيد الكربون وما قد يصاحبه من تنفس سطحي ونقص في الأكسجة وزيادة نبض القلب و طرحت احتمال ارتباط الاستخدام المستمر ببعض الآلام العضلية والهيكلية ووجدت دراسة سعودية أخرى شملت 710 نساء أن الالتهابات التنفسي�� والربو كانوا أكثر شيوعًا بشكل ملحوظ عند المنقبات لذلك ضيق التنفس عند المرأة المنقبة لا يصح افتراض أنه نفسي لمجرد الشكوى منه فهناك فروقات فسيولوجية قابلة للقياس رصدت بالدراسات، فما في شي اسمه النقاب حرية شخصية والمفروض يمنع لأسباب صحية قبل امنية #٢٠٣٠_بلا_نقاب

And when she finally gets married, she goes from one man’s control to another.

Her childhood.
