During a solar eclipse, the gaps between leaves on trees act as multiple pinhole cameras,
and each gap projects its own crescent-shaped image of the eclipsed sun onto the ground.

India made under 10 GW of solar panels per year in 2018, By March 2026, that number reached 172 GW
Government did 3 big moves. It paid companies to build factories through PLI cash rewards. It put 25-40% import taxes on foreign panels. It required government solar projects to buy only from approved Indian makers.
Chinese panel shipments to India dropped from 8.2 GW in 2020 to 2.1 GW in 2025. China filed trade complaints at WTO in December 2025 and put licensing curbs on equipment sales.
China built way too many solar factories. Panel making capacity hit 1,100 GW but world demand is only 600 GW, Companies sell panels below cost.
In 2025, listed Chinese solar firms together lost over 50 bn yuan. In this desperate market, Indian factory orders became lifelines because profit margins on equipment sold to India topped 35%.
So Chinese firms keep selling India production lines even while building up competition. Beijing cut solar export tax refunds from April 2026 But each company acts alone to survive, making collective damage worse.
India can now make 213 GW of solar panels and 32 GW of solar cells per year - Sounds impressive But it still imports 100% of polysilicon, raw material inside every solar cell.
Wafer capacity sits at only 2 GW, Over 90% of factory machines come from China. Government announced plans for new PLI support targeting 10 GW of polysilicon by 2028. It set June 2028 as deadline for approved wafer makers list.
Chinese analysts worry India will repeat this import-to-local pattern on batteries and energy storage next 🙃🙃
India is not building solar factories alone, US government helps fund it. US development bank DFC gave $500m to First Solar and $425m to Tata Power, both for solar plants in Tamil Nadu.
Between 2023 and 2025, 97% of Indian solar panel exports went to US market, When China blocked sales of ingot-making machines, Indian companies switched to German suppliers. Chinese analysts see this and worry.
Same pattern happened earlier in smartphones where US and Taiwan helped India build capacity, Solar follows identical route with same backers.
China created propaganda term means foreign investment graveyard to describe India. State-linked media pushed this to tell Chinese public that replacing Chinese factories was impossible.
Chinese professor Chen Xin even called for policies to stop India from industrializing But Indian solar module capacity hit 172 GW by March 2026, Solar product exports reached $2 bn.
Apple iPhone production in India beat Chinese predictions. Chinese side built comfort stories assuming India would fail. Those stories keep colliding with Indian output numbers climbing quarter after quarter.
Chinese solar companies are stuck, They built panel capacity of 1,100 GW but world needs only 600 GW. In 2025, listed Chinese solar firms lost over 50 bn yuan combined.
Over 40 solar firms closed or got acquired since 2024, Selling production equipment to India earns 35% margins, much better than losing money at home. Each firm keeps selling to India even knowing it builds Indian competition.

A modified herpes simplex virus that can kill cancer cells has been approved by the FDA.
On August 6, 2026, the FDA approved a new treatment called Tudriqev. It is a specially changed virus( oncolytic virus), made from the herpes virus, that doctors inject straight into the tumour. The virus helps kill cancer cells. It is given together with another medicine called nivolumab.
It is specifically approved for unresectable advanced cutaneous melanoma in adults whose disease has progressed after previous treatment with a PD-1 blocking antibody (such as pembrolizumab or nivolumab alone).
I have been following Indian cricket for more than four decades and I do not have any doubt over my favourite series win.
Go well, Ajinkya Rahane. You led a comeback I did not think was possible – and I was not alone in this.
