Save the date! The annual #Conference on #ArtificialLife - #ALIFE2025 will take place in the heart of Kyoto, Japan, from 6-10 October 2025. The conference logo, official website launch, and more details coming soon!
What are the bounds of complexity in living systems? How can synthetic biology and bioengineering be used to interrogate emergent properties or information processing in cells & organisms? Check my conversation with Michael Levin @drmichaellevin https://t.co/bF32rWefSo
@ItaiYanai Bigger problem is they prioritize their own fame and prosperity over advancing science or health of the community!
It’s a for-fame industry that pretends to be a for-society not-for-profit while hurting thousands of trainees in the process
⭐️We are seeking proposals to host the Conference on Artificial Life in 2026 and 2027. ⭐️
🟢Conferences should be a hybrid format.
🟢No geographical constraints.
🟢Support from ISAL RE: conference infrastructure + submission reviews.

@AndrewLBlair Ah! I was at IVA/ACII too - should have messaged you to see if you'd be around!
The talk sounds super interesting: I'd be very curious in hearing your thoughts if you're interested in chatting :)
Excited to present our paper in @Nature, extending noninvasive optogenetics beyond the brain to investigate an age-old question: https://t.co/eK0FV79Tdx
With @Ritchie_Chen, @KarlDeisseroth, the D-lab team and many others!
As I'm getting closer to finally being done with this video, I think I owe it to yall to share a page from my acting list for this video
Filming these and editing them in is usually the last step before the actual video release, so we're getting close!
Probably 1-2 week off
Wanna have fun and do some science in Lisbon this October ?
Join us for a cool conference on Consciousness and Embodied Selfhood in Humans and Artificial Agents 😎

It was a really nice surprise(!) to be nominated for the Best Paper Award at @acii_conf, amongst some excellent contributions!
We stuck our neck out a bit, chartering into some new territories, so it's nice that it was so positively received. Congratulations to the winners! <3
It's been a few years (2022??) since I've actually *given* a (research) presentation at a conference, so I'm pretty excited to talk about our paper, "Surprise! Using Physiological Stress for Allostatic Regulation Under the Active Inference Framework", at @acii_conf tomorrow. 😍

Looking forward to attending and presenting at @acii_conf in Glasgow next week!
We have a few papers accepted there, so it's going to be a busy few days.
I'm also looking forward to getting my virtual agents fix at @ACM_IVA which will be co-hosted at Glasgow.
...and that engaging with socio-political actions can look very different for different people. For me, and in light of events here this week, it means helping to defend my community both intellectually & physically, from uneducated fascists who are intent on violence & chaos.
I used to think that in order to be taken seriously as a scientist, I had to maintain a sense of impartiality and professionalism irl and online, avoiding controversy.
As I mature, I have come to appreciate that we simply cannot be separated from our lived experiences..
+1.
If you choose to identify as a scientist, then my belief is that this comes with a responsibility to enact socio-political change. Your role as a scientist = trying to make the world a slightly better place for future generations, regardless of your domain of expertise.
