Data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistic shows 25% of households are now food insecure. Stunted growth amongst children is 33% as millions of Pakistanis cant afford food. Meanwhile, elites receive $25 billion of subsidies annually. It is a duty to rebel against this unjust system.

What a convoluted, silly ‘solution’ to Pakistan’s man-made Governance crisis: destabilising Pakistan from within by creating new provinces at a time when 3 out of our 6 regions/provinces are already in turmoil! Creating new provinces is RECIPE FOR DISASTER as it’ll weaken the Federation & bankrupt an already fragile Economy! Fixing Governance is no rocket science. For starters, any system is as good as the people running it. Ours is a corrupt Sifarshi Culture System, based on Cronyism, NOT Merit. If rulers are serious about reform, they just need guts to do 2 things: Merit-based inductions/appointments/promotions & genuine devolution of decision-making & authority from the centre/provinces to elected local governments!

Domestically, Pakistan is facing a challenging time. Systemized Inequality between the province is normalized: Sindh in peak summer stands waterless, our river is dry and our coast line is eroding by the hundreds of acres per year, falling into the sea and displacing millions since the 1970s and into the current era.

Hospitals across the country lack basic facilities and reuse syringes infected with HIV on multiple people, mainly children.

Children infected in this way likely number in the 10s of thousands and Pakistan remains a global anomaly in this regard.

Pakistan ranks number 1 in the MENA region in HIV and number 1 in Asia in terms of infection rates pushed up by medical malpractice. Our government has failed in educating people about safe sex practices and the free availability of PREP which can block the bridge population from infecting needles in the first place.

Doctors are not safe in their own hospitals, facing deplorable working conditions from Quetta to Peshawar to Taunsa and Karachi.

Political dissent, even in the most subtle form is no longer tolerated even if that criticism is constructive. Baloch students are unfairly singled out in universities that have become so unsafe for students, the recent case of the disappearance (and now return of) Mehrab Khalid, a film student at NCA being a prime example.

Elite Capture has reached intolerable levels. The poor, working and middle class must face daily humiliations with signal free corridors and a lack of Public Transport putting the life of the average pedestrian at risk. Footpaths are littered with open potholes and gutters that children fall into and die in everyday some never to be recovered.

Karachi, Pakistan’s pulse looks like a war zone, Peshawar and Quetta do not fare much better. Lahore and Islamabad on the other hand shine and glitter and believe themselves alone to represent this diverse country that speaks 71 different languages.

The average Pakistani: regardless of their faith or ethnicity is not blind to these stark inequalities. Anger is building towards the center while the center points its arrows outwards back to us.

Pakistan’s role on the international stage has been nothing short of valorous and historical. Rejecting the Abraham accords and bringing Iran and the United States to the same table after decades. Yet perhaps we as a nation care too much about how the world perceives us and not at all about the quality of life of the Pakistani citizen. Pakistan promises us something better.
