I just listened to "Exile on Main St" in its entirety for the first time. It really is a boring-ass album, I think everyone was right to reject it at first. The Rolling Stones are the only band I can think of where the big hits really are the best of what they have to offer.

The only controversy was that some analytic philosophers - like Quine, Marcus, and Armstrong - protested it afterwards.
