4/4 Our findings reveal that biophysical constraints lead certain BF cholinergic neurons to exhibit greater modularity, while others show greater diffusivity in their functional integration with cortical targets
https://t.co/tDlxPZxn8M Work led by @Sudesna18, @RoyHaast, Kate Onuska and Prabesh Kanel from @neuroak, @inca_lab, and @UMichRadiology investigating the structure-function organization of basal forebrain cholinergic projection neurons using multimodal neuroimaging is now out in @NatureComms
3/4 🧬Evidence from both mouse and human data suggests that the BF structure-function gradient is shaped by a tradeoff between the complexity of cholinergic neuron branching and the distance they travel to their cortical targets.
A paper in @NatureMedicine reports that a phase 2a trial of drug candidate LM11A-31 in mild to moderate Alzheimer disease suggests that p75 neurotrophin receptor modulation is safe and attenuates measures of degeneration. https://t.co/KdFWz5KfFK
4/4 Despite the relatively short 26-week duration of the trial, we demonstrate that LM11A-31 slowed disease progression on markers of synaptic integrity and inflammation in the cerebrospinal fluid, as well as cerebral gray matter (MRI) and glucose metabolism (PET).
3/4 The trial met its primary endpoint of safety and tolerability. Our team analyzed the trial’s multiple secondary and exploratory endpoints, which included cerebrospinal fluid, structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and FDG positron emission tomography (PET).
#SchulichMedDent's PhD candidate Hayley Shanks may play for Western's women's football team, but off the field, she's tackling Alzheimer’s disease through her research.

@SudesnaC examined the spatial relationship between acetylcholinergic modulation and attention in the human cortex using meta-analytic strategies targeting both pharmacological and non-pharmacological neuroimaging studies. Thanks @neuroak and @royhaast! https://t.co/2UmkIzOgzb
