VIDEO | Mumbai: On his letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister regarding issues with birth certificates, Congress leader Amin Patel says, "I have raised two very important issues. One of them concerns minor corrections in birth certificates, which have been pending for several months. For instance, a child's birth certificate should clearly mention the father's name alongside the child's name. However, in older birth certificates, the father's name appears separately at the bottom, and Aadhaar authorities are not accepting such certificates. Schools require the child's full name to match the Aadhaar card, and because of this mismatch, students are facing serious difficulties in securing admissions to schools, colleges, and universities. They also face problems while applying to travel abroad. I have discussed this matter with the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation and other officials. They informed me that the issue requires a high-level meeting. I have also written to Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide regarding the matter, but the meeting is taking some time to be convened. In the meantime, I have written to the Chief Minister suggesting that parents be allowed to submit an affidavit stating that they possess the old birth certificate, have already applied for a corrected one, and that the Mumbai Municipal Corporation has not yet issued the revised certificate. Based on this affidavit, children should be granted admission. Once the Municipal Corporation issues the corrected birth certificate, whether in 15 days, a month, or two months, the parents can submit it to the concerned institution. Let us see what happens. I hope a solution is found soon..."
