The Centre for Audit Quality Committee of ICAI has developed an ICAI MSME Verification Tool to assist auditors in examining the MSME status of suppliers.

It is in the form of an executable (.exe) file which can fetch and compile data from the Udyam portal.

Smart features of the tool:
•Fast & accurate verification
•Easy data upload (CSV/Excel or manual)
•Real-time dashboard with clear status updates
•Distinguishes Micro, Small and Medium enterprises
•Identifies activities as Trading, Service and Manufacturing

Warren Buffett turned 96 on August 30.

This year is a little different. After decades of running Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett handed over the CEO role to Greg Abel earlier this year.

A couple of years ago, we spent nearly 8 months going through 47 of Buffett’s shareholder letters and turned them into a 10-part Varsity series.

The interesting part about these letters isn’t just Buffett’s stock picks. They show how his thinking evolved over the years — on buying businesses, valuing companies, dealing with market crashes, capital allocation, management, mistakes, temperament, and of course, the influence of Charlie Munger.

Now, with Berkshire entering a new era, it felt like a good time to bring this series back.

The ICAI President, Vice President, and Council Members should not act as "politicians" or make unsubstantiated claims about the demand for 50 lakh CAs in India. As a professional body, ICAI's success is not dependent on a massive membership. Indiscriminate increases in CA membership, irrespective of actual need, will not enhance the profession's prestige.

PM CARES Fund has recently uploaded its Receipt and Payment Accounts (Audited) for the years 2023 24 and 2024 25. Few observations:

1. As on 31.03.2025, the closing balance in PM CARES Fund across Savings and Fixed Deposits stands at a staggering Rs 84,52,06,70,758. A fund of this scale sitting largely idle raises serious questions about deployment intent.

2. Fresh receipts stood at Rs 12,79,91,28,444 in FY 24-25 and Rs 9,04,94,96,492 in FY 23-24. With reserves this massive, why is the fund still soliciting and accepting public contributions?

3. Payments were a mere Rs 87,84,840 in FY 24-25 and Rs 15,59,99,669 in FY 23-24. Against a corpus exceeding Rs 8,400 Crore, this is virtually no spending.

4. Bank Charges and SMS Charges in FY 23-24 stood at Rs 22,43,309, a multifold and unexplained spike compared to both FY 22 23 and FY 24 25.

5. Both the FY 23-24 and FY 24-25 Receipts and Payments Accounts are being signed only in August 2026, years after their respective year ends.

6. UDIN is missing from both audited accounts, despite being an ICAI mandated requirement for attestation since 2019.

7. Receipts and Payments Accounts carry no verifiable signatures, only scanned marks.

8. Only the Receipts and Payments Account has been uploaded, with no Income and Expenditure Account and no Balance Sheet. For a trust holding over Rs 8,400 Crore, withholding accrual based financials from public view is a significant transparency failure.

Finally the audit statement of PMCARES Fund for 2024-25 has been made public! Key highlights-
-Utilised only 0.01% of available ₹ 8,452 crore! Why is the PMCARES Fund keeping such large sums of money idle?
-324 crore was refunded by implementing agencies- but no info on what these payments were for and why these were refunded? Which agency refunded? Were refunds done to evade accountability for faulty equipment?
-Why have accompanying notes to the audit report not been uploaded?

A fund set up to help citizens during disasters, which has accumulated thousands of crores (including from foreign sources), is shrouded in secrecy. Still no information available on sources of funds. The PMCARES Fund continues to evade public scrutiny by refusing to submit itself to the RTI Act.
