Time to ban use of any projectile weapons that are not traditional to your ethnic group. You should only be allowed to carry and use your traditional ethnic projectile weapons. This attack by a crossbow-using Arab would not have happen if he had been restricted to a composite bow
I'm convinced that the political elite in most countries perceives the rest of the population as primarily a source of labour and taxation, ultimately fungible with the third world.
There are half a dozen times in Roman & Byzantine history when the rich take over all the land and either bring in slaves or turn the poor into serfs, until everyone gets so pissed off that a military dictatorship pops up and redistributes the land to the soldiers.
How a 3-page bill became a vehicle for UK-grade censorship:
B416 privately lobbied the PM via an aide-mémoire. The select committee delivered their asks - plus algorithm controls, VPN restrictions, and a regulator with broad powers. None of it was in the original bill. The public never got to submit on any of it.
The committee explicitly recommended NZ follow the UK, EU, and Australian models. In the UK, 12,000 people a year are arrested for social media posts.
The DIA is already spending $30.7M building the enforcement system - before any legislation has been sent to Parliament.
No privacy impact assessment. No comparative analysis of age verification methods. No legal advice on Bill of Rights compatibility.
Comprehensive online censorship was always going to be the end point - regardless of how narrow the original bill was.
Thank you @RCR_NZ for the conversation.
we talk a lot about institutions being skinsuited tho everyone carries on as if they they were the same as they once were.
it occurs to me this applies hardest to governments and peoples.
the US government, the UK government, on and on have no substantial institutional continuity with the entities we traditionally associate with those labels who generated the prestige of the organizations. the presidency is debauched, congress is castrated and vestigial, the court profaned, the bureaucracy metastatic.
similarly our notions of "americans." what is an "american" today? what have they to do with the people who fought the revolution? who conquered the frontier and the world? who bore the long twilight struggle, even?
it seems to me very little. the blood is grown thin and saeculum has done the rest.
we have forgotten the face of our father.
The British elite imported and adopted American left wing anti- racist ideology; which conveniently deemphasizes their own class prejudices. Class based prejudice and privilege has historically been far more salient in the UK than race based.
I have trouble talking about the british rape gangs thing because what's even darker than the racial element is this class element, where it turns out that the British have a white underclass that they hate more venomously than any of the alleged racial hatreds; state-sanctioned.
@CartoonsHateHer I've turned women down for sex before, because I knew what they really wanted was a relationship I wasn't prepared to give them, and I didnt want to lead them on or hurt their feelings.
@ChristianityOn The submarine campaign in the Pacific War is great too. Did you know that around 2/3rds of Japanese military deaths in that theatre were caused by starvation, due to the American strategy of cutting off supplies and bypassing islands where possible instead of attacking directly?
If you think you might be autistic, it's a good idea to learn about napoleon's campaign in portugal, horse and dog breeds, shipping logistics in the dutch indies, the development of cameras, debates within the american girl doll community, and the battle of the atlantic in WWII.
I speculate that the most effective anti drug / smoking / drinking campaign would consist of very unattractive people doing the vice you want to discourage. Will never happen as those who think it their role to discourage vice wouldn't acknowledge differences in attractiveness.
@hw97karbine Its fun watching how smoothly and efficiently the gun operates when it does go right - its easy to see why they could put out the impressive rate of fire they could.
@runaway_vol A lot of early aircraft didn't fully retract the gear - part of it would be left protruding from the airframe into the slipstream. Hawker Hurricane a good example, with the wheels retracted part of the strut would still protrude, conceptually similar to a flaccid penis.
