Bengaluru Development Minister @krishnabgowda said 'Safe Footpath Campaign' will begin on July 1.
Shops can voluntarily clear footpath encroachments till July 1, after which strict action and fines will be imposed. SC has upheld pedestrians’ right of way & CM has directed enforcement.
The campaign covers 2,000 km of priority arterial and sub-arterial roads. Pushcart trade will be banned on major roads from July 1.
Around 1,000 road deaths occur annually in Bengaluru, of which 30% are pedestrians. Footpath parking will be strictly prohibited and vehicles will be towed.
Unclaimed vehicles will get notice stickers from July 1, with a 7-day window, followed by towing and auction from July 10.
Rs 70 crore has been allocated to repair footpaths across 2,000 km.
Potholes will be fixed using box-cutting methods, with priority repair of signals and junctions, removal of humps, and no parking within 75 metres of signals. @GBA_office@GBAChiefComm

South Bengaluru is blessed with lovely, well-maintained parks. But just a few metres away, the experience changes completely, garbage blackspots around the park and surrounding areas put people off. Clean public spaces need clean surroundings too.

ITPB Metro Skywalk Opens, Boosting Last-Mile Connectivity in Whitefield
International Tech Park Bengaluru (ITPB) has inaugurated a 320-foot-long skywalk connecting Pattandur Agrahara Metro Station (Purple Line) directly to ITPB and Park Square Mall. #Bengaluru
The project, jointly opened by CapitaLand India Trust & @OfficialBMRCL , is expected to benefit over 55,000 professionals, improving pedestrian safety, reducing road crossings and easing traffic in the Whitefield area.
The skywalk highlights the importance of dedicated pedestrian infrastructure to strengthen last-mile connectivity across Bengaluru’s metro corridors.
Thank you @DeccanHerald for highlighting the neglected Ganga-era hero stones of Bengaluru. Truly appreciate this timely coverage. 🙏
A humble request — please give more space and regular attention to heritage, just like the recent article on Birds of Bengaluru. A similar deep-dive on the Veeragallus of Bengaluru, especially with World Heritage Week coming up, would be invaluable.
I also appeal to the GBA Commissioner sir to work closely with State Archaeology to save these and other hero stones in GBA limits — including those in Dasarahalli and other fast-urbanising pockets — and to create community heritage spaces on the lines of the successful Kolar model.
And I sincerely hope other dailies in Karnataka will also take up matters of heritage on a regular basis — our past needs a stronger voice in today’s media.
Bengaluru’s and Karnataka’s endangered heritage deserves nothing less.

Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line's fourth train (TS4): One coach arrived at Hebbagodi depot last night. Three coaches are at Nelamangala and may arrive tonight, while two are at Chittoor and could reach depot by tomorrow night. Induction may take 15–20 days after testing @OfficialBMRCL
If footpaths are wide, clean, and safe — Bengaluru will walk miles. 🚶♂️🚶♀️
@BBMPCOMM, if you can maintain them and keep encroachments away, we could be India’s most walkable city.
Let’s reclaim our footpaths!
