In a bid to facilitate growth of language translation technology for Indian languages, GeM signed an MoU with Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD), MeitY, in New Delhi Today.
The MoU was inked in the presence of Sh. P. K. Singh, CEO-GeM, and Sh. Amitabh Nag, CEO-DIBD. Other representatives from GeM and DIBD were also present at the occasion.
This MoU aims to facilitate growth of language technology and generative AI solutions to promote start-ups / industries in vernacular languages. It also aims to extend these services to sellers, enabling them to curate their product/services catalogue in their local language to promote inclusive growth and increase market penetration.
This would be facilitated through integration of Bhashini platform and other related technologies available with DIBD, in the procurement solutions provided by GeM.

Department of Animal Husbandry, Srinagar, recorded a significant gain in its expected earnings from sale of its unused/obsolete products using GeM’s Forward Auction feature. The bid opened at an initial price of ₹60,000 and it closed at ₹1,15,111, marking an outstanding gain of 91.85% on mixed-scrap items.
This remarkable feat is a testament to the Department’s unwavering commitment towards optimizing disposal of unusable goods and achieving overall financial efficiency.

Squadron Leader (Dr.) Farhat Perveen from the Air HQs delivered a presentation on her doctorate thesis on the performance of Government e-Marketplace (GeM) to CEO, GeM and Senior GeM Officials. The research outcomes indicate that the adoption of the GeM platform has significantly elevated the effectiveness of India's existing public procurement system by an impressive 83.2%. GeM has demonstrated remarkable enhancements across various key performance indicators, including a remarkable 97% boost in procurement process efficiency, a substantial 93% increase in competitiveness, an impressive 85% enhancement in transparency, and a 79% improvement towards reduction in procurement costs.
CEO, GeM expressed his appreciation for the dedicated efforts put forth in this research and directed to include her recommendations in the ongoing upgradation/ revamping of the platform.
