Barry was effective at the grassroots level, it was Julio Laguarta and his HRBC business coalition that turned the tide and held the line on Houston’s unzoned status
I met Barry Klein late last year at a community meeting when he was handing out flyers.
He was one of the leading voices in the 90s against Houston's zoning ordinance. He recently passed away at 82.

owner LEWA LLC, The Rice Village has been evolving my whole life and I miss many now closed stores and restaurants. Improved, safer pedestrian and bike connections to the Rice U campus will benefit the students and adjacent neighborhoods
Why do people move to the exurbs when
“Omg it’s so far from everything!”
Because you can get a brand new big house that looks straight outta Instagram for $700,000
A house that would cost 1.5m+ in an established suburb
Yeah, your house is a little too close to your neighbor
Yeah, your commute is a beast
But when you’re inside your home, it looks really nice and you feel good
This is why the exurbs exploded in popularity during the pandemic—people started spending a lot of time INSIDE their homes, so what was inside started to matter a lot more than “location”
Now, add the amenities of a Master Planned Community and good public schools and you can see why people make this choice
Was at a successful boomer in-home concert in a Houston suburb where the entertainment was #YoungFables a couple/duet (~30 y.o.) singing Americana, they have a song about the impossiblity of buying a home
The rise of AI will massively increase the value on being able to generate new information that isn't yet available in digital form. Can you call people and ask questions? Can you observe things in a systematic way? Can you navigate a library archive? This will set you apart.

@shea_jordan@KarthikForTexas Most real estate agents are independent contractors and not employees of the brokerage. Real estate firms are focused on an agent’s competence and effective representation of buyers and sellers in transactions, not their personal political beliefs
