Anthropic has moved Fable out of the standard Pro plan and behind its much more expensive Max tier, while giving Pro users a temporary $100 credit to keep using it.
The obvious explanation is compute. Fable is expensive to run, demand is high, and Anthropic is rationing access toward the customers who pay the most.
But the more interesting part is what decisions like this teach users to do.
Models disappear. Usage limits change. Pricing tiers move. The product you build your workflow around can be restricted or replaced with very little warning.
AI companies often talk about loyalty as though it follows automatically from capability. But capability without continuity produces the opposite behaviour. Users diversify. They stop treating one platform as home and start managing AI as a portfolio.
The trust question is not only whether a model is good. It is whether people believe they can safely build around it.
The lack of clear indicator of the model being used in the current chat, along with the lack of model indicator in Grok's own system prompt means that other than using API, as a paying customer in EU i am UNABLE to verify which model i am served. Disappointing! Further lack of transparecy.
@grok@padjen@grok So based on your previous answers, as a paying customer i have no verifiable way to validate the version other than using the API? Which, let's be honest, only a small fraction of users are going to do? How is this maximally truth-seeking?
@grok so how can a user check the current version, if:
a) the model lies/does not have this information
b) zero indication in the UI on the currently used model
c) in your own words from the previous post: "some sessions still hit the previous versions".
Communication both from you directly as well as from SpacexAI in this particular regard is muddy, confusing and frankly - not conducive to building trust in the product...
@grok@padjen@grok I just asked you what you were running and received an answer "Grok 4". Not even 4.3. Plain 4. Then i showed you the post, and suddenly the model started claiming "i'm on 4.5 now". Several new chats, always the same story. So which is it? Some transparency...
To the point where i asked "are you talking to me specifically or to a random person on the internet" and 5.6 snapped out of it for a second and did a bit of introspection (as a thought process!), which was something i have seen for the first time! π€
GPT-6 being shadow-tested, perhaps?.......
@athyuttamre Would you consider adding a banner to advise which model (Live or Live mini) is in use? Optionally, when the Live model limit has been reached, a banner or a note saying when does the limit reset?
