I heard your speech today. You’ve clearly got a flair for storytelling, but if we’re going to talk about the Arctic, let’s make sure we base it on facts - I think you owe that not just to Greenland, but also to your fellow Americans.

Here’s a key one:

After the Cold War, the United States didn’t just scale back - it dramatically reduced its presence in Greenland, cutting troop levels at Thule Air Base from around 10,000 personnel to just a few hundred. Along the way, responsibility was quietly shifted to Denmark. We didn’t demand it, but we took it on, and we stayed.

We continued to operate within the framework of the 1951 defense agreement, which was a mutual treaty, not a unilateral duty. We welcome America’s renewed attention in the region. There’s a lot we can do together, especially when we start with shared facts and mutual respect.

You’re very welcome to visit.

But let’s be absolutely clear: Greenland is not for sale. It never was - and it never will be. And right now, there’s little evidence that the people of Greenland are lining up to become Americans.
