Northern Whites and blacks despised southern whites and blacks, and didn't want them around. In the early 50s you had northern blacks not wanting southern blacks in their neighborhoods.

If you read how they described them, you'd think they were talking about ghetto trash blacks of today, because they behaved exactly the same.

In America, immediately after slavery when blacks followed the culture Booker T Washington had inspired, everyone was astonished, even in Europe.
