Under the comment sections, some Nigerians were asking the ambassador to tell them what they are using the cow bones for😁

As a livestock farmer and Agro commodities trader, I already know the uses of cow bones.

And about building a factory here in Nigeria? Nigerians are the ones to do it, but sadly everyone is building hotels😁

Let me tell you a few uses of cow bones.

If your PhD statement cannot survive these three tests, it is not ready for a fully-funded PhD offer.

The first test is compression.
After one reading, could someone state your exact research problem in one sentence? If not, your thinking is still organised around topics rather than questions. This is where many otherwise strong applications collapse. “AI ethics.” “Public health.” “Migration studies.” These are not research problems. They are broad territories. Serious research begins only when you identify the unresolved tension inside the field. If your argument needs paragraphs of context before the question becomes visible, the question itself is still intellectually underdeveloped.

The second is methodological inevitability. Does your chosen method emerge naturally from the problem, or was it added later to sound rigorous? Committees notice this immediately. Weak applicants often layer methods because methodology signals seriousness. But serious methodology does not decorate a project. It follows from necessity. The strongest applications make the reader feel there was no other intellectually coherent way to investigate the question.

The final test is recognitional fit. Remove the supervisor’s name from your statement. Would your letter still unmistakably point to their work? Most would not. This is where generic applications quietly expose themselves. Naming papers is not fit. Complimenting a lab is not fit. Real fit exists when your proposed inquiry extends a tension the lab itself has not yet resolved. That is the point where an application stops sounding like a request for admission and starts reading like the arrival of a future colleague.
