Karen Uhlenbeck is the first woman to win the Abel Prize in 2019 for her pioneering work in geometric analysis.

Born in 1942, this American mathematician linked partial differential equations with geometry and physics in profound ways. Her studies of minimal surfaces, like soap bubbles, and harmonic maps led to the 'bubbling' phenomenon, a key tool for dealing with singularities. She also developed important analytic tools for Yang-Mills gauge theory, impacting our understanding of fundamental forces in physics.

Uhlenbeck broke barriers for women in math and is professor emerita at the University of Texas at Austin, with ties to the Institute for Advanced Study.

ChangAn is one of the top automakers in China. In 2024 Collaborative Conference of ChangAn Global Partners on January 16, CEO Zhu Huarong said all automakers including ChangAn are losing a lot of money making NEVs and only a handful of NEV players are profitable. This is not a fair game & unsustainable for the industry & supply chain unless everybody becomes profitable.

If big Chinese automakers can’t make & sell EVs profitably, how likely can foreign automakers make money from their EVs?
