Shoutout to @elliotbewick for continuing to help raise awareness towards PSSD.
Consider giving this video a watch, as he dives into the subject with director of NIH, Dr. Jay Bhatyychayra

We deserve our lives back and won’t stop until that happens!
A simple "by the way, #antidepressants can cause serious sexual problems for a lot of people - I realise you're young, so I recommend that you take some time to carefully consider whether this is something you want to risk" would have saved my life
SSRIs increase rates of suicide vs placebo control group, not decrease, likely because of the horrific effects
Also the studies look like this :

There is no common sense reason to believe that perturbing the serotogenic system of a person would make them less depressed. And every reason to think that's a truly horrificly bad idea. It's just bananas. The theory is acknowledged to be nonsense. It's only the drugs that remain.
The other issue is that potential harms are withheld from people. People are not being told of the very very serious risk of PSSD. There is no informed consent. They are misled and told that they may experience "low libido". That's complete nonsense. It's a lifetime of the worst kind of suffering, and it is not being communicated to people before they start. And it's not rare. It's medical negligence that this has been allowed to happen.
It's still surprising to me that providers aren't worried about their own liability - many of the people who they've done this to are now reaching adulthood and realizing what's been done to them. I'd be concerned about that. Their lives have been stolen.
Chemotherapy treats a life threatening condition, so the risks of long term harm might be worth it.
SSRIs can and very frequently do cause horrifyingly bad life long issues comparable to the worst oncology drugs and are given to people who make the mistake of saying they're going through a bad patch or exam stress. It's not remotely comparable.
SSRIs are also indistinguishable from placebo in fair trails. As documented in the link above. The final report on the example above was ghost written to claim efficacy and safety - the underlying data showed no efficacy and no safety. This is just one of many studies that follow the same pattern. It's a lie. The industry is fully aware of this.
Fiddling with the serotonin system of a person to "treat" a bad period is scientific quackery. There is no common sense or scientific reason to believe that is anything other than a catastrophe waiting to happen. Just scientic nonsense.
@FrankFletes@DrMcFillin "The science" claiming these drugs are in any way safe or effective looks like this by the way - these drugs are neither. They don't beat placebo, whilst being catastrophically damaging. A scandal of terrible science and wishful thinking.
https://t.co/9B5srWqXus
They're not safe. It's only carefully crafted PR, including well funded misinformation and PR campaigns targeted at clinicians that have convinced them and the public that these are in any way safe or effective (they're neither).
For details on one : https://t.co/SxgQpEhtdf but that's far from the only one.

Thank you so much for giving Lauren a platform to share her story. She’s incredibly brave and strong.
We regularly interview and feature people on our channel, Moral Medicine, whose lives have been devastated by persistent adverse effects from SSRIs and other commonly prescribed medications.
Tragically, one of our guests suffering from the lasting effects of SSRIs lost his life just days after we interviewed him (attached).
Please consider sharing Moral Medicine with your audience as well. Every time someone with a larger platform helps amplify this work, it allows these patient stories to reach people who may otherwise never hear them. The channel has become an important archive of firsthand accounts documenting the human cost that can accompany medications such as SSRIs, finasteride, and isotretinoin (Accutane), while giving patients and families a platform to speak openly about experiences that are still too often dismissed, minimized, or overlooked.
These voices deserve to be heard.
Unfortunately there's no cure currently for PSSD :(
Clinicians often misunderstand it as "low libido", but that's not it unfortunately. Sexual dysfunction is maybe 15% of this condition. The worst symptoms are you lose all ability to feel emotion as well as the ability to feel attraction, at the same time as your skin and genitals go numb. Something horrific is happening in the brain.
It feels very much like a switch goes off. The neurological sides are hard to explain but unbearable. It's much worse than I can really explain. In the same way as people lost their sense of smell during COVID like a switch, it feels very similar to that. These drugs are doing something truly horrifying. But because it's not visible it's hard to get people to understand it.
Nobody currently with this condition has found any cures, with most still suffering extremely years and decades out. Hundreds of interventions have been tried and most have either not worked or catastrophically worsened people, in cases leading them to take their lives.
This conditions is true hell on earth. Torture.
Statistically SSRIs don't beat placebo in fair trials. What one drug company exec called "commercially very concerning results".
They are statistically not effective beyond the placebo effect, whilst being very dangerous.
https://t.co/S3xaRLReMm
The drug companies knew that. So they hired a ghost writter for the final report to show the opposite of what the trials uncovered. They've since spent millions and millions on media PR campaigns and clinician "awareness training", teaching them the drugs are as "safe and effective". Their internal data showed that was untrue. They were neither effective nor safe - with the SSRI group showing an increase in suicides due to the absolutely horrific effects.
The truth is coming out finally. It's massively overdue. Many people unfortunately still believe the marketing they were taught. It has no relation to the actual data. That's now becoming known.
@rex_feral It's terrible - and nobody is warned these issues can be permanent. It's worse than just low libido - this syndrome removes your ability to feel all emotions. For life. It's evil what's been done.
https://t.co/L2va2noG6s
@InsularEntropy It can also cause another horror syndrome called PSSD , where you lose the ability to feel emotions - permanently. Disgraceful drugs.
https://t.co/L2va2noG6s
The guardian interviewed PSSD sufferers a few years ago who describe it the same way it seems. Like a lobotomy. They're correct. It's really not an exaggeration. Something truly catastrophic is happening with PSSD - it's absolutely not " low libido". It comes on like an event for many - it feels like something shuts off. In the same way as I lost my sense of smell during COVID PSSD feels like that. A switch. And life is over. True hell on earth.
https://t.co/5pKgt7mkQm
Even good clinicians don't understand the severity of the downsides to these drugs. Or the permanence.
Regarding PSSD or akathisia - shitty just doesn't come anywhere close to describing the horror Dr Minot. It's a poorly named condition, sexual dysfunction is maybe 15% of the condition, and the least of anyone's worries.
Doctors really don't understand how severe PSSD, akathisia and withdrawals are. They believe they do, but it's obvious that they don't.
One lady who had a brain tumor as a teen posts on X, she now has PSSD and will tell you the latter is worse, and the suffering far more extreme. Nobody is making it up for dramatic effect - it really is as catastrophic as anything could be. Injury to the serotonin or nervous systems is about as horrifying a thing as anyone could experience.
"I would never recommend another SSRI to you". If someone develops it their life is over. And currently people aren't being warned about it. They're told some happy lie about possible "emotional numbing" or "reduced libido", neither of which come close to capturing the risk.
I know you believe I'm using the word lobotomy to be dramatic, or to over sell it. I'm not. I'm using it because it's the most accurate descriptor I have to convey the brutal hell of this evil condition.
Also many of the studies underpinning these drugs show that claimed improvements can be attributed to placebo e.g. https://t.co/S3xaRLReMm with many of the most awful affects appearing only later on or at cessation. For many leading to permanently ruined lives, despite an initial honeymoon period.
@douglassmackey These drugs are such a disgrace. Lord knows how many kids and young people's lives they've destroyed, permanently.

All for a drug that doesn't even beat placebo :
