I want to share my opinion

Nian was genuinely an irritating character. His hurtful words toward Chitiao from the very beginning of their relationship were extremely harmful. He constantly belittled her and did not believe in her abilities, which over time made her lose confidence in herself and feel that she was not good enough. He treated her rudely, and even when he started to develop feelings for her, he did not take his feelings toward her seriously. Instead, he said from the beginning that if either of them developed feelings for someone else, they should end their relationship

From the very beginning of their relationship, they chose to hide it from everyone. And I understand their desire to keep the relationship hidden so that it wouldn’t affect her work and achievements, especially since he was her boss and she was still at the beginning of her career. But the problem was that it didn’t stop at simply hiding the relationship; as time went on, Luan Nian would hurt her with his words because of his anger and jealousy and everytime, she would forgive him and give him another chance

What matters most to me is that Chitao was trying to grow professionally not only for herself, but also because she wanted to reach his level. She could see the difference between them; he was successful, experienced, had a certain status, and came from a higher social standing, while she was still at the beginning of her journey. That’s why the promotion meant more to her than just a position or a salary. She wanted to prove to herself and to him that she was capable of standing beside him, and that she could be a woman he valued and respected, rather than just a junior employee working under his management

That’s why failing to get the promotion was doubly painful for her. She didn’t feel like she had simply lost a position; she felt that she had failed to reach the level she believed would make Luan Nian see her the way she wanted him to see her. And what made it worse was that she began to doubt whether he himself believed in her or supported her, which only deepened her feelings of inferiority and her lack of confidence in herself.

And when Luan Nian finally began to change, and started asking her to tell him everything and for there to be honesty and trust between them, I completely understood why Chitao couldn’t give him that trust so easily. How could she trust you when you don’t value your own words when you’re angry? How could she feel safe with you when, in moments of anger, you hurt her, and during disagreements, you neglect her and leave her alone with her feelings? Trust isn’t built simply by telling her, “Tell me everything.” It’s built by making her feel safe even during the worst moments of conflict between you.

And from her side, Chitao wasn’t perfect either. Her problem was that she endured more than she should have. She kept her feelings and needs to herself, stayed silent when he hurt her, and then forgave him because she loved him and because she could see that he had started to change. But at the same time, she didn’t set clear boundaries from the beginning, and she didn’t always tell him how much pain he had caused her. So she kept everything bottled up inside until she reached a point where she could no longer endure it.

And I don’t blame her for being unable to trust him, because what happened wasn’t just one incident that she could simply forget; it was six full years of built up resentment and hurt. Six years that taught her that his words could be hurtful when he was angry, and that when they disagreed, he might choose silence or neglect instead of talking to her and reassuring her.

Even when Luan Nian genuinely started to change, it wouldn’t have been reasonable for her to regain her trust in him overnight. Trust that was damaged over years cannot be repaired with just a few good actions. She needed to see his change consistently and for him to prove to her that the person he had become would not return to the person he used to be

At the same time, Chitao needed to learn that love doesn’t mean forgiving everything or silently enduring hurt. She needed to set her boundaries from the beginning and tell him when he hurt her instead of continuing to give him chances until she reached her breaking point

And that is exactly why I see that their problem was never that one of them loved the other while the other didn’t. They both loved each other, but they didn’t know how to love each other in a healthy way without hurting one another

Luan Nian needed to learn to respect her feelings, control his words when he was angry, and communicate instead of resorting to silence and neglect.

And Chitao needed to learn to set boundaries, express her needs, and not let her love for him become a reason to compromise her self-respect.

That’s why I believe their breakup was necessary not because they weren’t right for each other, but because they needed to step away so that each of them could change and mature on their own, and then find their way back to each other by genuine choice, with a relationship built on trust, respect, and equality, rather than simply love and attachment
