🚨 TRANSFER: Bolton have £1m bid rejected for Max Dean.

According to Pete O’Rourke, Bolton Wanderers have seen a £1 million bid rejected by Belgian side Gent for striker Max Dean.

🚨 According to Alan Nixon, Bolton Wanderers have received a £5 million cash injection from their new American backers.

The report states that 3.15 million new shares were purchased at £1.61 each, with the investment made through Entrepreneur Enterprises.

Nixon adds that the shares are Class C shares, separate from the club’s main shareholders.

🚨 Bolton Wanderers have been linked with experienced goalkeeper Asmir Begović. 🧤

The 39-year-old has made 459 senior club appearances, playing in the Premier League, Championship, Serie A and European competitions, while earning over 60 international caps for Bosnia & Herzegovina.

While his best years are behind him, Begović would add leadership, experience and competition between the posts if a deal materialises.

🚨 Steven Schumacher has hinted that Joel Randall could be on his way out of Bolton Wanderers.

Explaining Randall’s absence from the squad against Fleetwood Town, Schumacher said:

🗣️ “Fergal has obviously had a conversation with Joel and it’s one of them, we feel as though playing in these types of games where there’s that risk of injury, if he’s not going to be part of what our plans are right now…

The squad is quite, it’s not full but there are two players pretty much for every position, so we don’t want to risk an injury or whatever. He trained today with the group back at Lostock. We will see how that one develops.”

It certainly sounds like Randall’s future lies away from the Toughsheet, with the club unwilling to risk him in pre-season while discussions continue. #BWFC

🚨 EFL law changes coming into force for the 2026/27 season:

A number of new rules aimed at reducing time-wasting and increasing ball-in-play time will be in effect across the Championship.

🧤 Goalkeeper injury rule
If play is stopped for a goalkeeper injury, the manager must nominate an outfield player to leave the pitch. That player must remain off for at least one minute after play restarts.
Exceptions apply for serious incidents, collisions, bleeding or fouls on the goalkeeper.

⏱️ 5-second countdown
Referees will use a visible five-second countdown when players delay taking throw-ins or goal kicks.

🔄 10-second substitution rule
Substituted players will have 10 seconds to leave the field, beginning with the Carabao Cup first round on 1 August.

These changes follow the introduction of the goalkeeper eight-second rule last season, with the aim of improving game flow and cutting down unnecessary delays.

Another encouraging outing for Steven Schumacher’s side, making it 1 win in pre-season.

Rúben Rodrigues continued his excellent summer form with a brace, taking his tally to three goals in just two friendlies, while John McAtee came off the bench to add a third and get off the mark.

Bolton edged the contest with 55% possession, 14 shots to 9, and 4 shots on target, creating the better chances throughout despite Oldham pulling one back from the penalty spot.

Results in pre-season always come with a pinch of salt, but the early signs are positive. Rodrigues looks full of confidence, McAtee is up and running, and Schumacher’s side are beginning to build momentum ahead of the Championship campaign.

📋 Match Reflection | Dunajská Streda 2-1 Bolton Wanderers

A few days on from Bolton Wanderers’ 2-1 defeat to Dunajská Streda, the result perhaps didn’t fully reflect the balance of play in what was another valuable pre-season test.

Wanderers actually edged many of the key statistics, finishing with 54% possession, 101 attacks and 56 dangerous attacks, compared to Dunajská Streda’s 95 attacks and 39 dangerous attacks. Bolton also earned three corners to their opponents’ two, but were unable to convert their control into clear-cut chances.

The biggest difference came in front of goal. While both sides managed seven shots, Dunajská Streda were far more clinical, hitting four efforts on target compared to Bolton’s one, ultimately proving decisive in a tightly contested encounter.

Although the scoreline ended in defeat, the performance showed encouraging signs. Bolton controlled large spells of possession, regularly progressed into dangerous areas and continued to build match sharpness against strong opposition as preparations for the Championship season gathered pace.

The 28-year-old right midfielder enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 campaign in Portugal, registering 5 goals and 4 assists in 33 Liga Portugal appearances, while creating 25 chances, completing 22 successful crosses, and contributing 170 defensive actions. His ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch could make him a strong fit for Steven Schumacher’s side.

At 28, Larrazabal would bring valuable experience and versatility, offering competition on the right flank with a proven record in a competitive European league.
