Yesterday, American Correctional Association (ACA) and our colleagues from Correctional Leaders Association (CLA) were present in Washington, D.C., to support Senator Tom Cotton (AR) and Representative David Kustoff (TN) as they introduced the Cell Phone Jamming Act of 2025.

Thank you to the exceptional group of leaders present to support this legislation: Commissioner Tyrone Oliver (GA), Commissioner Frank Strada (TN), Director Bryan Stirling (SC), Director Josh Tewalt (TN), and Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin. Commissioner Strada and Attorney General Griffin spoke about the issue and the common-sense need to pass this legislation to protect the corrections professionals of this country and the public we serve.

Pictured in uniform is Correctional Lt. Francisco Collazo from the South Carolina Department of Corrections. A contraband cellphone was used to coordinate a hit to try to kill him and his family in their home after he participated in a contraband arrest. His house and yard were scorched in the attempt. Fortunately, both he and his family were unharmed. Real stories, real people doing their jobs and suffering the consequences of illegal cell phones in our corrections facilities.
